Does Z realize that New York Yankee fans booed A-Rod last year?

And those Yankee fans were correctly labeled idiots by most of the rational world.

Do you think Cubs fans are idiots for boo'ing Z? Z has done nothing close in the Majors to compare at all to what Arods done.

Not idiots, but definitely selfish like Z said.

I think people have a right to be selfish when they are spending their money to see a game. I suppose it's also selfish of me to hope a movie is good when I spend $8 to go to the theater. And it's selfish to expect good food when I go to a restaurant. Consider us all selfish!

Do you boo your waiter if he drops a plate of your food?

Z obviously realizes he didn't pitch well, which means booing just boils down to the fans trying to make themselves feel better.

The only problem I see with Z coming out and apologizing tomorrow is that a lot of people (including myself) aren't going to buy it because it will seem like somebody (whether it be Lou/management/his agent) forced him to and it won't seem like a sincere apology. I would rather have him not apologize for what he said - at least he's being honest and isn't giving some BS excuse - and just come out in his next start and pitch well.

No, but in some cases customers might ask to speak with the manager if they are dissatisfied with their food or service. In our case with the Cubs, we can't speak directly to the players or management, so booing is the clearest way to express displeasure.

Or it means fans are emotional while at the game. Z is allowed to be emotional while pitching why arent the fans while watching?

That's where the analogy breaks down. Like I said, everyone realizes that Z/the team isn't doing well in that situation. No one is enlightened by the booing, it's only for the boo-er's benefit.

I think everyone has conceded that you are "allowed" and it is your "right" to do so as a fan. That does not make it correct thing to do, just like Z's emotional outbursts are not always appropriate.

I think it's the correct thing to do. I want fans to boo when the team sucks like today. Lets me know people aren't just sitting there enjoying their hot dogs and beer.

I've spent 20 years watching this team constantly crap the bed in big games/points in the season. I was at Game 6. It's been 99 years since we've won a World Series. We're in the heat of a playoff race and we've been given plenty of opportunities to expand this lead further than the 1.5 games that it's been for awhile now, but we haven't. I say we fans have every right to be selfish.

I think its really funny that a pitcher who is known for showing his emotions on the field, like Z, is upset with fans for showing their emotions.

What he said.

Lee seconds Zambrano's view on booing

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-070903cubsbrite,1,5801634.story

Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee came to Carlos Zambrano's defense on Monday, saying Cubs fans should cut Big Z some slack when he has a poor outing.

"I'm not a big fan of the booing at home," Lee said. "Maybe if it's a lack of effort, but 'Z' has been so big for this organization and gives everything he has out there, so I have a hard time with the booing."

The booing started with the game tied 1-1 in the third, when Zambrano blew off third-base coach Mike Quade's stop sign and tried to score from first on Alfonso Soriano's double with no outs. Ryan Theriot followed with an RBI single, but Zambrano's selfish decision cost the Cubs a run.

No, but I also don't stand up and start clapping when I'm satisfied with the waiter's performance. I think that's a pretty poor analogy. But to go with it... I will tip less when the waiter's performance is bad. So, in a roundabout way, I guess that could be considered the equivalent of booing him.

I guess his view and my view is different. This isnt the 1st time hes struggled in a playoff race.

wait, what did he say? im confused.

i was really hoping this wouldn't become a big thing. oh well.

The Trib doesnt have the article up yet, but I explained a little more in another post. When the article comes out Ill post it. But he doesnt think he deserves to be bood.

i see that now. i was sure he was just saying he heard the fans and knew that he sucked, this just blows me away.

i guess it's time to start the move to run him out of town, should be fun

Right after signing?

Oh God, this could really start to suck.

things could get really hilariously bad pretty easily. everything will be cool if zambrano can avoid sucking for a little while, but if he has a couple more bad starts and keeps getting booed, who knows what will happen.

I'd expect a Lou forced/written apology tomorrow before the game. Mentioning how he's disappointed in how he's pitched the last month, how he plans on turning things around and making the fans cheer for him.

And I absolutely can not believe that Piniella didn't talk to him after that and coach him on how to deal with the media after the game. Crazy.

Wouldn't that be the job of the Media Relations Director?

Z is going to be the next Sosa.

funny, I don't remember anyone (on the Cubs) really caring when JJ was getting booed.

I don't have a link or anything but I'm pretty sure Lee and a few others came to his defense too.

When was the last time JJ got a hit?

Did Sullivan misquote Lee? On Sportsnite they showed Lee talking to the reporters and he said something like "We don't like booing but it happens and you can not let it get to you and affect your performance."

Hmm. I'll take your word for it. I miss a lot of stuff like that not being in IL anymore, but I couldn't really remember seeing anyone speak out like that.

Well, if he wants fans that don't care and don't know the game, then he needs to find a new city. They exist. As a lifelong Cubs fan I think it's insulting that he tells us fans "he'll remember this" for next time. I hope he does show us all! That'll have meant he pitched good an got a win. Fine by me. Get a grip Z. Quit blaming others.

Definitely, Lee came to Jacque's defense. He also didn't like it a few years ago when it was aimed at someone else (LaTroy? Corey?). Derrek has been outspoken against the booing of Cubs at Wrigley (and good for him).

Good for him. I respectfully disagree though.

I just get tired of booing. It doesn't accomplish anything, and it alienates the players on our team.

Unless it's a lack of effort, it makes me embarrassed.

I think it's fair to boo stupidity as well, which Z has clearly exhibited.
