not quite the theatrics of the rami hr to win vs the brewers but definitely felt good... reminds me of the braves game after lou's meltdown that ward had the rbi to win the game (also a sunday game).. seems we have about one of those a month that propel us into a little hot streak.. lets hope this is one!

Hm... I think you're mixing up some games... the Sunday game for that series was a blowout from the start, as DeRosa hit a grand slam. The most notable Ward game winner was on a Sunday, but it was against Washington, and it happened before the Atlanta series.

I should know, I was at both of these games. :D

I'd like to quote something I posted after Friday's loss.

If the Cubs win the next two games, all will be good.

And let me just say, all is good (with regards to this series).

so that ward hit (outfielders playing in and he hit it over the left fielders head) was before "the meltdown"..

I have to say that Lee taking called 3rd on the outside corner will get a lot more tolerable if he keeps cranking these huge home runs.

I'm too lazy to dig for it, otherwise I'd quote my post from after Aram's ejection when the score was 5-4 I said the Astros would need seven runs today if they wanted to beat the Cubs.

How does it go again? Completely something something by September, or something... I forgot. So did the Cubs.

I have to say. I'm shocked.

Not for one minute until Derrek Lee swung that bat did I think the Cubs might win.

It was all fine and dandy when Sori sac'd and Riot had the RBI and the offense showed a little life, but ARam's ejection made it pretty hard to believe that the charge would continue.

What a great win. Wow. I'm going to be walking on air the rest of the day.

Lou says this was the biggest of the year. I disagree. The win over Milwaukee w/ the Ramirez walk-off was the biggest.

Eh, they're both huge wins. This one is in September though, so I can see why he says that. This kind of win can bring a ton of energy to a team that needs it right now.

Yea, I agree - The walkoff was huge, it was against the first place team at the time, and it extended the streak to seven, but this was the difference between losing a series to a team you're really supposed to be and being only a game up on third place to a series win in September, keeping your breathing room, and bringing a little momentum into a big series against a contender.

Lou gives props to Murt, bullpen, and the clutch "Mr. Lee." He still hasn't caught his breath either.

How about he gives props to Murton by starting him more often. That way he would have 4 AB's to do what he did today rather than just one.

I don't know if that's such a good idea. With all the starts Floyd and Monroe have been getting, they have all the experience this season, and experience is what's important. Or something.

Nope, can't do it. I tried to say something stupid enough to argue with you, but there's just no other answer.

Picture review is back !!

2007 Cy Young candidate Woody Williams was on top of his game.

While Rich's one pitch was not enough to keep the amazing offense of the Astros at bay

Surprisingly the Astros were able to steal almost at will

And then there was a ray of hope

The only thing that could salvage the day was a 2 run homer, was anyone up for the challenge?

CUBS WIN

Posted

it's so satisfying beating bad umpiring, as well as the opposition.

not sure if it has been mentioned elsewhere on the board today, but today is the anniversary of when the umpires took the second game of the DH away from the Cubs on that call down the third base line, the first game being won on a Sosa dinger.

much like I applauded Alf belly bumping the ump, I liked Aram's arguing the bad strikezone, even though it made winning the game less likely. I haven't watched alot for the past month, but ever since the Phillies and Mets series it seems the Cubs have been getting hosed fairly regularly by the umps when I have been able to watch. while there is always the danger of the "Moises Alou double secret probation," I am of the opinion that umps will continue to hose a team until that team stands up for itself.

despite the Cubs losing that game back in 2003, they were in a funk of bad umping at the time, and although the umping in Puerto Rico a few days later was horrendous as well, that game seemed to be the swan song of the bad umping, and it propelled them on a little winning streak that sent them hurtling toward the division championship. hopefully Aram's outburst and Lee's blast today will do the same, just like Sept 2, 2003 did for that Cubs team.
