If we got cash that probably means we gave up a decent prospect. That's not good.

I doubt it.

I believe it means "We DFA'ed him so instead of having to pay his full remaining salary to go away, we'll pay a portion of his remaining salary and get a roster filler in exchange."

What I think should really concern people is if he puts up a few "clutch" homers. The Cubs back into the playoffs and then Hendry signs his sorry can to a 3yr 15mill contract. Not only is Murton a better option against Lefties now he will probably be gone next year as we get Monroe for 300 ABs. This is typical LOSER MENTALITY from the biggest losers in pro sports.

This isn't old.

At all.

Hendry's crappy signings are.

Ted Lilly...good.

Marquis...decent.

Soriano...good.

DeRosa...good.

Howry...good.

Eyre...decent.

Rammy...good.

Z...good.

Well, here's my opinion.

Ted Lilly...good.

Marquis...crappy

Soriano...good (but may not worth the money in a few years)

DeRosa...good.

Howry...ok (but not worth the money)

Eyre...crappy

Rammy...good. ( but there are looming signs with injuries)

So what's the 40-man roster move? Angel Pagan to the 60-day DL? Neal Cotts or Buck Coats DFA'd?

I would imagine they would non-tender Cotts after the year anyway, so it certainly might be him. If Coats couldn't get a chance to get on the bench with all the turmoil this year, he probably doesn't have a future either.

I can't see Pagan going on the 60 day because that would end his year, and I don't think that's for certain yet.

I would trade Murton for a bag of hair just so I dont have to hear how he's the second coming of Christ anymore.

But then we would hear it even worse every time he gets a hit with his new team.

Sweet, more ignorant baseless dramatization of what people are saying about Murton. Awesome.

Its no over dramatization..I don't think ive ever seen people flock to a guy like some people do to Murton. You would think the guy is winning batting titles or healing cancer. He is no lock to be batting like .325 like most people think.Just because he's liek 24 and cheap..Who cares..Theres plenty of guys in baseball like that can also post a .280 to .300 average Just because weve seen glimpses of him,he's a decent player, does not mean he is a lock to become this power hitting outfielder batting .330 hitting 40 HR's

I hope its not Coats, maybe Pagan to the 60 or he's the PTBNL

it has to be pagan... collitis is terrible, no way he will be in game shape in time.

If it is Pagan, that would explain even further why the Cubs had to make this deal now.

No one wants to go into a playoff game and face that first left-hander and have to play Jacque Jones in CF because there is no other option.

point is Hendry's been damn good in the FA market and hasn't made one of his "crappy" signings in a couple of years.

Be careful what you say in year one of long-term contrtacts, Marquis and Soriano's contracts look like they'll be awful down the road.

Just like he did with Randall Simon, right?

Like he did with Neifi. The Cubs also picked up Derrek Lee that offseason so there was not need for Simon. All I have to say is I have been a Cub fan for a long time and this is just another example of a 30 something never was who was in some pennant race with another team being overrated by the Cubs.

So you're saying that the Jones signing was decent and the Burnitz signing was good? Burnitz had a .770 OPS that season he played for the Cubs. That's not good for a corner outfielder. Jones was decent last year, but has been pretty awful this year outside of a good couple of weeks.

You could have just stuck to statements like those in blue, avoiding statements like those in red, and we could have had a decent baseball discussion about the player. But when you claim that people believe Murton is the second coming of Christ, and then claim you're not overdramatizing the situation, you lose a lot of crediblity. And worse, it's hard for anyone to take the whole discussion seriously after that.

(I don't mean to single you, as a poster/person, out. But your post here pretty much exemplifies what I'm talking about.)

This reminds me of St. Louis picking up Wilson last year. Both Wilson and Monroe were absolutely horrible with their respective teams before being DFA'd.

I don't know how it will turn out but I don't necessarily think it was a bad pickup. There outfield has been horrible this year.

And look at how Kendall turned out.

but, but Dusty Baker told me that Monroe was going to step up his game for the Tigers

seriously, he did, last night on BBTN. Karl responded with bitter silence

btw.. I wasnt calling you stupid, I was just trying to be funny. Burnitz's OPS was due to his inability to get on base(.322) but he was more than adaquate slugging. and for 1 year 5 million and getting 24 hr and 87 rbi's that is a fine signing. that whole team could not get on base. we hate jones because of the length of the contract, but again for 5 mil a year, last I agree his first hald this year was beyond terrible, but he has been good the entire second half, so for that signing he has been good for more than half of that time.
