carpenter has been on borrowed time forever, you were lucky to get what you did from him

After 645.3 innings in three years, it is unreasonable to think maybe his injuries are behind him?

Considering that he's not going to pitch until 2009, I'd say that's pretty unreasonable, yes.

I think he was just saying after a guy averaged over 200+ innings for 3 years, it would be relatively safe to assume he would be "fully recovered." Then again, assuming health in any pitcher is dangerous. But after 3 healthy, Cy Young quality years, you could have reasonably assumed he was back to normal health. Still not surprising, though.

This guy is a freakin beast.

Its a little early in his career as a hitter to be saying that. Ankiel is homerun or nothing. He doesnt take walks at all. There have been plenty of guys to come up, and look like world beaters at first, only to have the league figure him out rather quickly, i.e. Mike Fontenot, Bo Hart, etc...

Stuff like this happens, stop whining.

I'm not whining about the Cardinals misfortunes so much as I'm trying to point out to you guys that it happens to everyone.

I guess self loathing is something you do better than self awareness though, so I'll let it drop.

I'm not sure who this is directed at. Did you really come to a Cubs board to tell all of us to stop whining and that bad luck happens to everyone? Are you kidding me? We're pressing 100 years since a WS win and over 60 since we've even been there. And you're going to tell us that this happens to everyone? When you and your terrible and unlucky team made the WS 2 of the last 3 years and won it last year?

My in-laws called me this morning well before I was getting up for work and woke me up to wish me a happy birthday and also to talk about how great the Cardinals are.

I'm going to go stab Rick Ankiel to death.

yes, but just 1 HR in his last 19 games, and just 3 in his last 32

Overall: .403/.525/.928

August: .524/.484/1.008

He struggled in July, but bounced back well so far in August. He's not hitting 6 HRs a week like he did right away, but I don't think the league has figured him out.

Including tonight, Ankiel has struck out 10 of his 24 AB's -- 42% of the time. He's walked once.

Ryan Howard, the league leader in Ks, has struck out 38% of his ABs, but he's also 4th in the league having drawn 77 BBs.

Small sample size, yes...but in the end, I can't see a ton of good coming out of this experiment.

In a way, it's a good thing. Some early success might make LaRussa less likely to take him out when he inevitably starts sucking

This is exactly what I was thinking. I would have responded with "I'm sorry Mr. such and such, I can't talk right now, I'm getting my birthday (fill in blank) from your daughter right now."
