they call it a "bat". other mlb teams are currently using them. give it a try.

I don't have much confidence in this team but I still BELIEVE in this team. I think that all they need is a spark again to get them going no matter who is playing. I think we could break out of a slump just as quickly as we broke into it if we just get a few guys stepping up in the clutch. But then again as it seems to everyone here we're the cubs when we lose we lose a lot. You all seem to forget that we we're once playing great baseball. Yes, yes I know we aram and sorianoless but you never know what can happen. Just keep the faith!

Then I hope we blow them out so you wish you would have watched the game!

Then God Bless DVR! I get the best of both worlds. Not watching, and having it JUSt in case. Hyeh hyeh.

Probable Pathetic lineup:

Theriot SS

Kendall C

Lee 1B

Floyd LF

DeRosa 3B

Jones CF

Fontenot 2B

Pie CF

Lilly P

at least i'll be entertained by the cubs playing with two guys in CF. that's something, i guess.

They have to go with Murton, Pie, Jones at this point, don't they? Floyd has to sit. Seeing him run into right center over and over made me wince, and those swings are just pathetic.

If Cliff starts anymore I'll break something. Might as well toss the kids out there in the outfield the way Cliff is playing.

Thank god we are out of Houston! The Vance curse is over too

Cubs score early, often, and raise the W flag for the first time in a week.

Yeah, I'm putting this one on Vance. Both the Texas and the Houston series were absolute failures.

Pie Starting? LOL Pie is here as a defensive replacement

I figured Lou would give him a start. Yea, I badly messed up of the OF alignment. Maybe Floyd in RF and Jones in LF. Hopefully Murton in LF.

Please Lou, no more Jones, the man cannot hit, last night somewhere in the mid-innings Oswalt hung a breaking pitch over the middle of the plate. In other words, he put on tee and all Jones could do with it was pop out to SS, if that isn't vivid proof that Jones can no longer hit, I don't what is.

You're trying to use last night's game as an example that Jones cannot hit? The one he went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk?

yeah...we have to play jones right now...he is one of our best options in the outfield

sad, but true

How sad is it that you can say that now?

OK wrong example, basically there's no reason to start him CF over Pie, Pie may not hit better but, he's the superior defensive player and probably, base runner - those facts alone are reason enough to permanently remove Jones from CF.

Normally I'd at least be sympathetic to the view that the Cubs need a good defensive presence in CF. However, with Soriano and Ramirez out right now, the Cubs need every advantage in offense that they can possibly get at the moment, and right now that's Jones.

Just started its own thread, but FWIW, from Cubs.com:

HOUSTON -- The Cubs know they will be minus Alfonso Soriano until Labor Day. Now, they may have lost team RBI leader Aramis Ramirez for a few days as well.

Ramirez was to fly back to Chicago on Thursday to have his sore right wrist examined, leaving the team minus two key bats in the lineup.
