Soriano and Ramirez. This is almost as bad as the 2005 injury bug, although nothing can ever top the 2004 injury bug.

Might as well put Aramis on the DL now and put EPatt at 2nd, DeRosa at 3rd. We know that's where Ramirez will end up anyway.

If Aramis is headed to the DL, then we're pretty much screwed. IF that's the case I'd like to see Soto and Kroeger called up (Soto should be up anyway).

Theriot SS

Patterson 2b

Lee 1b

Murton LF

DeRosa 3b

Kroeger RF

Soto C

Pie CF

Might as well see what we have going into next year. With the sale of the Cubs, it's not very likely we're going to add much in the offseason.

If Aramis is on the DL, I think the Cubs would have to risk letting Ward get several starts in the OF. They would need all the offense they can get. If they put a lineup out there most days of:

Theriot

Patterson/Fontenot

Lee

Ward

DeRosa

Jones

Murton

Kendall

Pitcher

That might be enough to hang around for a couple weeks until Aramis and Soriano got back.

Yeah, it's the best we can do. But Daryl Ward hitting Cleanup? It's not good by any means. :(

Lets not all freak out about this just yet. He might have gone to the hand specialsts to evaluate treatment options or get fitted for something.

Neither are the Murton suggestions, Bat Murton 2nd and Lee cleanup.

Remember when Fontenot batted third.

He had a 926 OPS last year and a 900 OPS so far this year (.333/.456/.444 line so far this year). He would be just fine as a cleanup hitter IF he can maintain those numbers starting against right-handers for a couple weeks (I'd still sit him against left-handers). That's a big if of course. Ward is another guy that with the at-bats he has so far this year should have 3-4 home runs on the season, and he has 0. It's strange.

Does this kind of thing happen to other teams? Sigh..

Yeap. And guess where they usually finish in the standings.

I hope I missed an attempt at sarcasm. Yeah, let's mail it in when we're 1 game out. Although in your scenario, Soto would be your catcher, not Old Man Kendall.

If Ramirez is hurt, the other 24 guys in that clubhouse need to sack up and play some effin baseball. Excuses are for losers...

And everything I've ever seen in my years as a Cubs fan suggest they're anything but. If they can't handle scoring runs without Soriano, I doubt they're going to suddenly start lighting the world on fire without Soriano and Ramirez.

Only if you are drowning in magic pixie dust, such as LaRussa & his Cardinals for example.

Sadly, no pixie dust near Wrigleyville.

HR leader at a lousy 18 goes on DL - CHECK

new HR leader at a lousy 16 goes on DL - pending

So is this Hendry's punishment for getting a pitching staff that wasn't aa susceptible to injuries as in the past 3 years?

Next year he'll pile in non-injury-prone hitters and we'll somehow have the coaching staff start going down with injuries.
