With Soriano going down and the A's going nowhere, could Shannon Stewart be a good fit and available? He's having a pretty good year and plays LF. I need to look up his contract status, but if he only has one yr. left on his deal than they should go after it--problem is he may not get through waivers.

stewarts having a pretty floyd-esque season. we have in-house options (2 of them) that will at least produce with him, probably outproduce him, and they don't cost anything to acquire.

Bruce Levine:

48hrs to negotiate a deal (from noon today).

.299 career

.298 this year

Hendry put in 4 other claims that they did not get.

What does that mean exactly? The other team put them on waivers but then pulled them after a claim was made?

Claimed guys that other teams with higher priority also claimed.

Stewart doesn't do much for me. I guess he could be an improvement over some Cubs, like if he's subbing for Floyd or Jones. But if the OF has Stewart, Jones, Floyd I don't see much improvement.

.360 obp this year, decent speed (10 SB), .300 hitter, not a lot of power but the Cubs don't have much to begin with. If he fills in for Soriano and then becomes our 3/4th OF the rest of the season, I'd be very happy with that acquisition. Then sign Tori Hunter after the season and we can make a former Twins OF

I will never understand the thinking of Hendry/Lou. They have basically refused to give Murton a chance, but now they are trying to get a speedier version who has slightly less power and is more expensive? I just don't get it.

If the Cubs trade Murton for Stewart, something/someone's getting burnt to the ground.

It's amazing how insistent the Cubs are on in gathering OFs to play instead of Murton when none of them are any better than him. And some of them aren't OFs.

But there is no way Murton makes it through waivers to Oakland. It'd have to be for players who are not on the 40-man or as a PTBNL.

I think it's safe to say that Hendry/Lou want veteran experience of a race down the stretch run.

I wouldn't mind this move.

GIS for Shannon Stewart:

oh yeah, this is a family site

Who knew Shannon Stewart had a nice rack.

What's the point? Murton is a better version of Stewart.

But Murton's not going to play, and Stewart is a better option than Jacque Jones (assuming Pie takes over center field).

Lou being stubborn about Murton doesn't make acquiring Stewart a good move, it makes firing Lou a good one.

Might want to update the thread title. I just assumed that this thread was a continuation of the first post -- just discussing the possibility of the move. If not for BCB, I wouldn't have known they claimed him.
