nope no moves for Jimbo today, not a surprise. Heres to hovering around .500 the rest of the year, lets just hope the Brewers play below .500 and we can slide into the playoffs and anything can happen from there.

because we have been playing .500 baseball with our current roster for the last 2 months?

It was a hot streak. It got them back into contention, but to think they will sustain +.650 baseball the rest of the year is really pushing it. They havent even been over 8 games above .500 The team has to many weaknesses to sustain playing at that level for a 2-3 month timeframe.

Most good teams play .500 ball for long stretches of the season. It's hot streaks that get good teams into the playoffs. The Cubs have had 1.5 hot streaks this season. With their easy schedule, they are due for 1-2 more. It's not like we are over our heads. We are actually playing 4 games worse than our Pythagorean record suggests.

I thinking of one of two scenarios:

1. Hendry tried to upgrade with a Griffey, Dunn or Church but, their price tags were outrageous.

2. Hendry has been fooled by the last two months into thinking the Cubs, as they are currently constructed, will get to the playoffs and beyond.

I'm hoping 1. was the case but, my heart tells me 2. is much more probable.

I really consider it more of a reach to think they will play .500 ball the rest of the way.

Do you realize just how weak the schedule is the rest of the way?

The Cubs will make the playoffs and lose in the 1st round....UNLESS WE GET ANOTHER FRICKIN' BAT.

thank you very much

A - We really don't know that the Cubs haven't made a move yet.

B - You seem pretty convinced that the Cubs are going to play .500 ball the rest of the way. I strongly believe otherwise. I'd ask you to wager, but I wouldn't ask you to root against them the rest of the way. That said, I see no way that the Cubs will hover around .500 the rest of the season.

I dont understand how everybody can just forget the first 2 months of the season. They got on a hot streak, and Im glad but to totally dismiss the first 2 months of the season, when the team has gotten weaker at catcher, Marquis has remembered he sucks, and Hill is not pitching with the same dominance, CF is the same hole it was, and we are getting no power at all from RF, is absurd.

Not going to meltdown i just don't believe we will make it any further than the 1st round of the playoffs. No one can tell me this team is good enough to win a WS. To the people who keep making comments like'who says hendry hasn't tried' etc this is just bs cos it's his fault our OF,C and bench require upgrading at this point. Actually he has done one thing-made the C position worse than it was before.

I'd rather commend Hendry for giving us a Cubs team that has been the best team in baseball the past two months and will be a division winner this year...book it! And if you look objectively around baseball, there aren't too many teams who have the catcher position figured out.

boy you're pretty good, to know that the cubs will lose to an unidentified team in a series of only five games.

Thank you...and that's coming from a guy (UMFan) who predicted the Cubs to win, what, 82 games at best?

But, he created the hole at catcher.

78 :), but I seriously undervalued our starting pitching, which you have to admit is better than anyone could have predicted. Our offense is playing about exactly where I predicted it.

Look at the schedule the rest of the way and get back to me.

The team was getting incredibly unlucky at the beginning of the season.. We lost way too many one run games and were way behind our pythagorean win expectancy (even now, we're behind it). I don't consider it all that improbable that this team, as presently constructed, could win around 90 games.

In fact, I consider it more likely that they'll win 90 than play .500 the rest of the way.

your right. team sucks. season over.

good analyisis thanks for the input. I said nothing of the sort, but whatever, Im a Cubs fan and I expect failure from my team, as thats what they have done my entire life. Believe me I hope Im wrong, and IM man enough to admit it if Im wrong. We are all Cubs fans, but we all look at things differently, so why is my pessimism such a horrible thing? Its been 99 years and all 27 years of my life, and Ive never seen the Cubs in a World Series, so I think my pessimism is very warranted.

I'd rather improve my team than sit and pray we play above ourselves which is what we've done for 2 months. 9-16 against LHP?? No OF except the $136 million dollar man has over 4 HR's this will catch up with us.

Did you really expect the Cubs to bring in a new manager/coaching staff, 3 new starters, and two new position players, and suddenly get hot when they are playing in 40 degree weather?

This is a different team than the one from April and May; one with the hottest pitcher in baseball, one with three healthy all-star bats, one that is getting solid play from a core of young players, and one that could get a nice boost when KW comes back this week.

Sure, I would have loved to land Junior or Dye, but I'm still confident that we have more than enough to beat the Brewers for the division title. And then as the White Sox and Cardinals have proven the last two years, it's anyone's ballgame come the post season.

you didn't have to necessarily say it. it's your "the sky is falling" attitude towards everything that is cubs. i'm disappointed if nothing happens as well, but if the asking price was way too high for a rental, then why mortgage the future?
