Bruce says no trade :(

Pie here to stay; so, likely, are rest of Cubs

“There’s nothing that’s going to happen in the next half-hour or hour, and there’s certainly nothing that’s going to blow people away like when we got Nomar,” [Hendry] said.

That's from first thing this morning though. Didn't Bruce post somewhere on here that he didn't see any trades happening, but it was subject to change b/c you never know?

Oh, I realize that. Just passing it along cause I didn't see it posted.

I just heard the Cubs are looking at Brad Wilkerson. Why? Despite being a left-handed hitter, he's mashing lefthanded pitching:

.266 AVE

.356 OBP

.609 SLG

.965 OPS

Supposedly the mets are in on him too, but hed be a nice upgrade for us.

Those are strong words from Hendry. If he suddenly went out and got, say, Griffey, it would make these words lies. Not that Hendry is above that, but still.

I think it's time to start accepting not much will happen. Maybe Church, but how many midline outfielders are we going to stockpile and still leave Murton on the bench for little or no reason?

Gagne deal seems to be hitting some roadblocks:

Yankees, Mets not optimistic about Gagne

The Yankees and Mets are discouraged about their chances of landing Eric Gagne, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

The Yankees won't trade their top pitching prospects, and the Mets have declined to part with Carlos Gomez. The Red Sox are believed to have the best offer on the table, but they don't know if he'll waive his no-trade protection to join them. The Brewers, reportedly using Tony Gwynn Jr. as bait, are also in the mix. Jul. 31 - 12:08 pm et

It doesn't make them lies if circumstances changed thereafter. What's true at one time doesn't have to be true at another.

That's like going fishing with a bare hook.

BOOOOOOOOOOO.

You suck. Get better at your job, Jim. Your team is flawed and so is your face.

Exactly. All hendry would have to say is "We were content with what we had but when this opportunity presented itself we couldn't let it pass by" or something.

Ack, the Crew showed they'll toss prospects out like peanuts to acquire a reliever. This could mean the Crew are moving to the forefront.

I love me some Jonah Keri

Matt (Chicago, IL): Are the Cubs going to get a right handed hitting RF?? Maybe Dye? This is the biggest hole that I see for them.

SportsNation Jonah Keri: (10:37 AM ET ) They've been talking about Payton, who's more of a stopgap than a difference maker. The White Sox are apparently asking a lot for Dye. Cubs have some intriguing young talent, question is whether they'll part with it, given how many holes they'll have to fill around their stars next season and going forward.

Personally I'd slot Matt Murton in there and let him hit, rather than letting Piniella jerk him around like he has. Murton's got a solid track record and could really help that team if they give him a shot. Yes, it seems riskier than making a deal. But why not try it, if the alternative is two months of mediocrity from a Payton type.

I like.

It's sad that we do have in house solutions for 3 of our 4 holes, but Soto, Murton and Pie won't get any regular time for some reason.

Once again, CF isn't really a hole.

670 is just doing Bears' talk. You'd figure they would be discussing baseball because of the trade deadline, but they're live from Bears' camp and are only discussing the Bears.

Except for the whole lack of production thing, you're right.

Just doing Bears talk? My dear EJ, the Bears are all that matters in this world.
