It would be nice if doing what's best for the baseball team on the field took precedent over PR.

Sosa in RF platooning with Floyd would be a big upgrade given the cost (nothing).

You mind as well just trade him for some prospects and get something back in return instead of releasing him.

That's what they are trying to do. No other team in the league wants him apparently.

Not to nit pick, but this is an incredibly common mistake. It's "might as well."

In much the same way Cardinal fans are "morans".

I never really got that joke.

I can see this becoming a very poppular thread.

I can't believe that they would be relegated to simply releasing him. Worse comes to worst even if a team does not want him to touch the field defensively, he can provide a solid bat off the bench in a pinch hitting situation.

Maybe the Padres could use him. The Padres defintely came out on top in the Chris Young/Adrian Gonzalez trade. Maybe they can go back to the well.

Can you say "unnecessary distraction?"

I think bringing Sammy back would be a terrible idea. Can you imagine the media circus? Not to mention the bad blood with players and management.

The team is playing well, and there are plenty of other good options for an additional outfield bat. I hope Jim is working hard on it. Either that, or hope Murton starts to contribute.

Can you say "CANCER" No thanks. This years team is all about TEAM. It's pretty clear Lou doesn't like sideshows and feels, despite the #'s, it's counter productive to winning.

I'm still a little surprised that nobody offered something (a box of sunflower seeds) for him. I would bet somebody (not the Cubs) will sign him once he is free.
