I would prefer Griffey over Dunn.

Depending on what package they're asking for, this is a no brainer. The only way I would go after Dunn is if he was very cheap and by all indications it sounds like the price is dropping daily.

Dunn or Griffey. Dunn or Griffey. I really can't decide. Griff we'd have for another year or two, and I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I think the proper strategy for Dunn is to just wait until the offseason and see if you can't work out a trade then so his clause doesn't kick in, then attempt to resign him before he hits the market. I could live with eating Griff's contract for a few years while not playing if he can contribute this year for the run.

Edit: It's obviously one or the other. If it comes down to getting one this season, I say Griffey, but for the long term, Dunn is the man.

I'd prefer Griffey. Griffey would fit better with our needs, I'd rather have Griffey hitting behind or in between Lee and Aram than Dunn.

OK I gotta ask.

With all of this Dunn / Griffey / Dye / Murton / we need an upgrade in RF talk, does anyone ever find themselves getting just a little curious about Josh Kroeger and his 20 HRs and 1.000 OPS? The dude's been seriously raking all year.

Someone just go ahead and tell me I'm nuts for having that thought even cross my mind and that'll be that.

Someone brought it up when he was raking at AA, and I wanted to wait and see how he handled AAA since AA had never been the problem with him. After tonight his OPS is now north of .950 at AAA, with 15/20 BB/K in ~130 PA's. I'm really curious to see if he could handle a big league spot in some capacity, but the circumstances just don't seem to be right with the 40 man roster as it is.

Hendry's 40 man roster management this season has been pretty horrible. Does anybody remember who all is eligible for the Rule 5 next year?

Isn't he almost too old for his level? Just thinking out loud.

No you're not, you're typing. How old is he?

I think the Reds will move both Griffey & Dunn a good friend of mine is a corporate rep for a company in Cincinnati and to his own admittance is not a baseball fan but he say that's the talk there. But then again he claims he saw the Cubs and the Orioles play in Baltimore back in the early 80's.

Talk where? In the media? By the fans? That doesn't mean anything. It's pretty simply. Krivsky is going to get what HE wants for Dunn and Griffey or he will hang onto them into the offseason and probably into next season. Dunn's price tag is cheaper then Griffey's, but both are going to cost you something nice.

Either somebody is going to step up and make a deal, or nothing will happen. I'm not sure if I like the strategy or not, but that's what is going to happen.

if the cubs and reds were gonna make a deal for griffey, what would you as a fan want back from the cubs?

Murton & Marshall

Murton can't play RF, and even if he could that is the position Josh Hamilton should be playing.

Dunn is the Reds Lfer, for now. Jay Bruce will probably be playing LF in Cincinnati a year from now.

I thought Hamilton was a CFer? And why should he be playing RF?

Not trying to be argumentative, just wondering.

For Griffey?

Marshall, Patterson, and a pitching prospect along with the Reds not having to pay any of his salary.

If that's what the Cubs give up the Reds better be picking up part of his salary.

The Cubs would be crazy to give up that much for an injury prone old outfielder who could break down at any time.

The Reds are just amazingly comfortable with being bad, and that, much like the Devil Rays, makes them tough to deal with.

Jim Bowden disagrees.

Why do people keep wanting to trade Marshall? I don't understand how subtracting from our starting staff makes us a better team.

Because a everyday player (if you can call Griffey that) that can help on a daily basis, not once every 5 days...

OK, I'll play along.

So you get Marshall for one of our starting five - who replaces him?

it would pretty much have to be gallagher right?

Thats what I was thinking. In a perfect world, Miller would come back with electric stuff. As we all know, we do not live in a perfect world.
