$20M per year for Ichiro is insane. There's no way he's worth that amount of money.

Did anyone hear the radio interview with Marlins president David Sampson when he was asked about the deal?

He at first said he couldn't believe it. And then said if it were true that baseball was about to return to the ridiculous contracts that got clubs in trouble. He had a hard time believing that the 20 million figure was accurate.

David Samson only has his job cause he's Loria's stepson or ex-stepson or something. Beinfest is the brains there, Samson is just in it for the strippers. And he's like 5 foot 3.

Most sports tickets are already priced at the revenue maximizing level so raising ticket prices would actually reduce the team's revenue.

You might be correct if life was exactly like an economics text book but it's not.

However, at least sone economists contend that rising ticket prices are the cause of rising salaries.

I agree with him. All of these contracts the past 2-3 years have been crazy. At one point I thought we would not see another 20mil contract in a long time, boy, was I wrong.

yeah, that was hilarious...he straight up wouldn't believe the radio host. he was about to start crying. it was as if someone just broke the news to him about pujols not pinch-hitting in the ASG.

I don't know how or why you continue to make suck claims based on no evidence whatsoever. It is mind bottling.

I hate myself for not remembering where that line comes from

here's the yahoo article about what vance is talking about

LINK

That was quite a rant by Florida Marlins president David Samson, who enlivened the apparently imminent Ichiro Suzuki extension by calling it, "the end of the world as we know it," on Dan Le Batard's radio show yesterday

I love the next line, the author of this article really slams it to Samson:

Of course, Samson knows an apocalypse when he sees one, having stripped down the Marlins and canned the NL Manager of the Year in the middle of it, and every time you turn on a Marlins home game there's about 18 people in the crowd.

this contract is really insane IMO. If you're going to pay 20 million for someone, then he better be a 5-tool monster who plays great defense. Ok he plays an elite position, but in my honest opinion, he isn't the top CF in the game.

I won't argue that he isn't top notch in the field, if not arguably the best.

But his bat is lacking when it comes to power hitting. I'd be way more comfortable giving someone like Grady Sizemore that kind of contract, who is the premier offensive CF in the game from my perspective. He's also almost 10 years younger. Does anybody believe Ichiro is going to be as good as he is now at age 38?
