Yes, please. He should be brought up anyway. His numbers at AA are outstanding.

Doesn't matter what hand they throw with. What matters is if they can get guys out.

Yes and no. Both Wuertz and Marmol struggle some with lefties, so there's some validity of needing more than one lefty in the pen.

I think if Kerry can come back, then you have to just get the hell rid of Eyre. You do not send good guys like Marmol, Weurtz, Petrick down for Wood. If they really want to win it all they need to get rid of the trash.

Blevins.

Definitely.

Wood could potentially be a nice insurance policy, but I see absolutely no reason to count on him or to rush him through a few rehab starts. Especially with an 11 man staff, the Cubs can't afford to have a guy who can only pitch every 2 or 3 days. I think Wood should remain in the minor leagues for several rehab appearances until/unless he can prove that he truly is healthy enough to pitch on a consistent basis. I'm a huge Kerry Wood fan and I hope more than anything that he can come back and contribute to the Cubs, but I still think it's too early to count on him for anything until he proves that he is ready.

I don't think Wuertz or Marmol struggle enough against lefties to warrant another LHP in the pen. Wuertz has walked more of them this year, but his OPS against is nearly the same between the two sides of the plate, and he was significantly better against lefties last year(and he did well against them in AAA). Marmol is a little harder to get a read on considering he hasn't been a reliever that long, but my guess is considering his repertoire(similar to Wuertz's) that he won't have a super drastic split.

Just to counter a little bit-Wuertz has also not been used a lot or pulled when tough left-handers are coming up, which artificially deflates his numbers. Plus, his 3 year numbers before this one showed this:

Against Left: .230/.341/.399

Against Right: .216/.292/.332

He may have corrected something to make that split disappear, but I think usage pattern has had a lot to do with it as well.

I hope he does. He deserves a good break more than anyone on the team or MLB imo. If he never pitches another game again he will still be one of my favorite Cubs of all time.

Same here. I've been nothing but a staunch Cubs fan my whole life, but if I could pin down the start of my current level of obsession to a single day, it would be May 6th 1998. My expectations aren't high at all, but unfortunately my hopes still are.

I'll take "Because people think they are alot funnier than they actually are, and don't realize their posts are idiotic" for $1000 Alex.

Jerry Blevins... I've seen that name mentioned in this thread a few times. I've never heard of him prior to today, so I looked him up on The Baseball Cube. Can someone please tell me why you're clamoring for him to be brought up? I just looked at his stats, and he was awful in A ball in '05, then even worse in A ball in '06. He was pretty good in 6 innings of AA ball that year though. I don't know what his numbers are this year, but what about a guy who sucked for the last two years in A ball makes you want him in the ML bullpen right now?

i just honestly don't care about this. if he can throw heat with that breaking pitch, he'd be a good addition, but as it is - minus eyre - i like the bullpen a lot right now.

Blevins is interesting because he's significantly added to his pitching repertoire this year. He is throwing several miles an hour faster than he has in previous years and his location has taken a huge step forward. It isn't just the results in AA and single-A baseball this year, it's also the feedback from people watching him who say that he's pitching absolutely fantastic this year.

I was being a little bit facetious when I suggested Blevins, but if he continues his current pace the be an option that has to be considered at some point this season or next season.

In three full non-premium pages, I counted approximately one post which contained "the same old tired comments" without contributing to the discussion. (Vance's July 08 remark.) Given that the thread is "the same old tired" speculation about Kerry Wood and whether or not he'll ever get off the DL, I'd say that's a pretty good ratio.

Wood will be pitching out of the bullpen when he returns and will need just a few minor league rehab appearances before being activated from the disabled list. He could join the major league roster before the end of July.

That will be one helluva standing O when he makes his first Wrigley appearance. Can't wait ... just the kind of boost this team will need down the stretch.
