why the crap is Rotoworld's take on this a POSITIVE one for Florida?

Because they got two players AND money and we got an A ball player.

In all honesty, we probably did get the worst end of the deal, but Its really worth it in the end.

but Rotoworld's details are sketchy. They don't say 2 for 1 or how much money is moving. Still, it amounts to getting nothing for nothing. It's not like playing in the vast Dolphin Stadium will help Jock's power outage

The Marlins are short on outfielders unlike the Cubs. They really have nothing to lose by playing him and plenty to gain. It's like if a SS who had recent success but had fallen off the table this year got traded to the Cubs-at worst it's an even trade for them. This is a great example of a win-win deal for both squads.

If we're paying his whole salary and the A ball prospect is a nonprospect, I think we lose this trade. Getting rid of Jacques, just when Pinellia has finally decided to bench him, only benefits the team if we gain back his salary next year. This trade won't really have improved the team unless Hendry uses the empty roster spot and available money to bring in a decent RF to replace Jones.

Any word on the returns or the salary ramifications? I'm assuming it'll be something along the lines of Dontrelle Willis for Jones with us picking up half of Jones salary.

You're not being serious are you?

I'm always serious.

I hear we're getting Miggy and Dontrelle.

Uh, if we're going to pay for part of Jacque's salary we better get more than that.

I'm sure they'd throw in Hanley Ramirez.

Assuming the deal happened...

Since it's happening so late, who are they going to replace Jock with on the roster? Don't they also need to notify that 6th bullpen arm that he has to come up and most likely pitch tonight?

petrick is already on the way... if dempster goes on the DL, then who knows what's coming. Probably Piggy from Iowa.

Billy Petrick is coming up. There's another thread in this forum on him.

They already did that part hours ago. Petrick is probably already in Chicago ready to pitch. If the Jones trade hadn't gone through, they would have sent somebody down instead.

Or if he goes with Murton/Floyd in RF and uses the space for SS improvement.

It sounded earlier like Dempster was going on the DL to make room for Petrick.

When we found about Petrick, he was already flying in from Carolina.

Right, thanks - the title of that thread is the only time I've heard his name, but I've been too busy and pumped over this thread to bother with the other one. Good to know.

So you're just dumb?

Okay, in all honesty, I thought it was pretty clear I wasn't serious. I drink the kool aid sometimes, but I don't drown in it.

I don't think the organization has decided if they should DL Dempster or not. Otherwise, they would have done it, and the story would be up already.

Reportedly, XM MLB Home Plate is reporting that Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the deal has hit a snag. No further details.

How's that for nth-hand info?

Can someone give me a quick overview on this?

Is it official? Who did we get? How much money involved? What's the corresponding move?

My money is the snag is the amount of money the Cubs pay on Jones' deal.

The organization had originally said they wanted to take a day or two to see how demps reacts before they put him on the DL. I'd assume that if this Jones deal hadn't have gone through then they probably would have just done it anyway just so they could clear up a roster spot.

So far:

Jones, PTBNL, $1 to the Marlins for an A ball pitcher.

However, it was just reported that the deal has hit a "snag"

Well, 670 is going to the effing Sox pregame now. Still no confirmation. And I still think that if the deal was done all the reporters at the park would know about it.

That's what it seems like. Moving Jones is the perfect way to get the extra reliever up and keep Demster off the DL.

They're talking about it on CSN at the moment. It still seems like it's happening.

Please summarize. Thanks.
