Lou Piniella's suprise is that tonight, he will manage without any pants on.

I think that might hurt ratings....a lot.

I dunno - he was saying that a bunch of gals stopped him near the clubhouse and would not let him leave before he took a pic with them.

Perhaps Lou has The Cavorka.

He used a Gilroy.

I predict:

Soriano LF

Fontenot 2B

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Floyd RF

DeRosa SS

Bowen C

Pie CF

Marquis P

I really do not see DeRosa starting at SS tonight with a sinker ball pitcher on the mound.

That's about the best offensive lineup we can muster right now isn't it?

Barring Trade/Recall of Murton/promotion of E Patt....I mean with our current 25 man roster.

Then yes, this is the best

I honestly think Izturis should start at SS against lefties with our current 25 man roster. That is to say I'd rather have Izturis at SS than Floyd in RF against a left hander. Either Pagan should be in RF or Izturis at SS, with DeRosa taking the other position.

What if Hendry traded Jones, Fontenot and a pitching prospect to MacPhail for Brian Roberts?

Roberts becomes the starting 2B for the Cubs - surprise!

Even cash deal for 2008 as Jones and Roberts offset salaries; Jones plays CF after MacPhail DFAs Corey Patterson, a free agent, who will not be back with the Orioles anyway. MacPhail gets out from having to pay Roberts $8M in 2009 and Jacque is a free agent after 2008.

Hmmm. That would also take Soriano out of the leadoff spot, giving him more RBI opportunities.

Roberts in 07':

.324 / .411 / .451

:!:

EDIT: He's also been on base 138 times, fourth most in the AL.

Good idea, but Roberts has actually been very good this year, and is popular in Baltimore. They'd be mega-pissed if they traded Roberts for the worthless Jones, a guy who could've been picked up by anyone a few months ago, and a "pitching prospect." Unless that prospect is named Rich Hill, I'm guessing Baltimore would laugh and hang up.

Indeed. That's a crap offer for a player of Roberts' caliber.

If you put Murton with another highend prospect like Patterson or Fox, and tacked on Fontenot and Jones, that would probably at least get their attention.

I do not think for a second that Lou talking about surprises means something as impactful as this would be going down, but I'm not one for the "they can't trade him he's too popular" story. Baltimore is a terrible team that's way out of contention and several years from contending. I don't think they are going to refuse to trade Brian Roberts, a sometime quality player, out of fear of pissing off fans.

I know I'm prob late but has anyone thought of Cedeno coming up and playing 2B because he's tearing it up in the minors? It's been mentioned already probably, right?
