I think Muskat got Lou's comment wrong. Here is another story using the same quote from Lou:

Piniella wouldn't say where he'd put Mark DeRosa when Aramis Ramirez returns to third base on Monday. "It might surprise you," he said. With left-hander Jeff Francis starting for the Rockies, DeRosa could go to right field.

I think this quote about a "surprise" is much more about DeRosa than the 2B situation-especially since Lou had this to say about Fontenot:

"He's earned a spot playing by his play," Piniella said. "He's been consistent. He's hit well. The kid deserves to be out on the field."

I'd love to see them call up Patterson, but considering they want to add a pitcher to the pen, I don't see that one happening.

Maybe Soriano has himself in a fantasy league and wants to get his 2b eligibility back. :D

Soriano?

I just wouldn't see the point of this, because it would mean derosa to LF and since De ro can handle 2b well enough it wouldn't make any sense.

And considering Sori has saved us about 10 runs with his arm from LF.

Good find. This sounds like nothing more than bad reporting by Muskat.

this team is so lame. The big surprises that Lou hints at end up being elementary decisions (like fontenot at 2B and DeRosa in RF against a tough LHP), and the crazy roster moves end up being a back-of-the-bullpen guy who sits around for a couple of weeks and ends up going back down. I'm not holding my breath for them to get rid of the scrub trifecta, because that actually would be interesting.

Yeah that makes more sense. I'm still holding out hope for a trade, however.

I'll go out on a limb and say that DeRosa will get a start at SS sometime this week, and maybe tonight. I didn't believe that would happen before, but something about Lou's comments make me think he's going to try it.

Lou Piniella's suprise is that tonight, he will manage without any pants on.

I think that might hurt ratings....a lot.

sex sells man, sex sells.

Not fat man sex.

I dunno - he was saying that a bunch of gals stopped him near the clubhouse and would not let him leave before he took a pic with them.

Perhaps Lou has The Cavorka.

That is exactly what I thought when I heard Piniella's comments. I bet you Dero is going to get a shot at short--especially after looking so good at 3rd and with Piniella's knack for not being shy to "play around" with his defenders.
