"The Cubs have talked with the Texas Rangers and several other teams about deals involving outfielder Jacque Jones, team officials confirmed."

Jim, don't let him get on the team plane after the game today - just leave him in Arlington!

In other news regarding Griffey: "While the Cubs' uncertain ownership future makes acquiring a player with a multiyear contract more difficult, team officials say they haven't been told they can't take on salary beyond this year.

Things may be looking up!

Take him. I don't care if all we get back is your worst player on your low-A team. Just freakin' take him. Please.

Who wants to bet this is Texas' evil plan to get Lou to keep putting Jacque in the lineup so they can "get a look", only they just want the easy out?

Brilliant!

Yes, please.

Unloading Jacque will clarify things greatly.

I wonder what the Cubs could get from the Rangers in exchange....

Sammy Sosa?

How much of a kick in the nuts would that be? "Congrats you hit your 600th home run against your long-time team who traded you for peanuts. We're trading you back for some more peanuts"

Did you guys see the "Tribute to Sammy" on WGN before the Cubs/Rangers game on Wednesday? What did they mean "to be continued?" at the end? Do they know something we don't?

I don't see anything on the big league roster, which is a problem since the Rangers likely want the finances to match-up. Maybe a prospect and cash.

I'd even take Sammy for Jones at this point...anything really

Texas can have that sack of dog crap. i'm not a coach, but Jock is all out of whack -- hips flying out, head not in the right place, WAAAAY out in front. he needs some new mojo.

Last night, I wanted to cry every time he came to the plate.

Their GM must be absolutely stupid to want Jones.

their GM looks to be 13 years old. He's too young to know any better. Good for us.

Yes.

I hope Hendry doesn't demand too much for Jacques. At this point, even though I think he will turn it around somewhat, I doubt he will come close to last season's production, or his career numbers. He needs to stop taking up playing time, and since Lou is too hard headed to bench him, he needs to go.

Given what we have received in the last ten or so trades, I would not worry about that too much. I alos believe that Lou would bench him if he weren't being told by Hendry, "Showcase him so we can trade him." Of course, letting him play exposes him as well.

It was mentioned earlier, but bears repeating: Jacque's swing and approach suck. His hips are way out in front and he tries to pull everything. He rolled over on at least two sliders that I saw last night. Had he gone with the picth they would have been easy doubles down the left field line; both were up in the zone. He tries to swing like Griffey, so the solution is obvious: trade his arse and go and get the genuine article.

Of note: I heard on ESPN 1000 this morning that Griffey has agreed to be traded to the Cubs specifically. Can anyone confirm?

If I was a team that needed an LH'ed hitting OF'er and knew that Jones was avail. and the Cubs were willing to eat a % of that contract and doubtful much would be needed in return, I'd be interested.

Somebody on another board I was on said that ESPN first take reported that Jacque might be in a deal with the Reds for Griffey and that Griffey said that "he would love to come and play for Lou again"

If I needed a 5th OF with a little pop and could convince the Cubs to pay all but the minimum for him, I'd be interested.

Griffey? Really?

What's it going to cost? I'm guessing it's going to be too much.
