It's official. Barrett and some cash for Bowen and a high level prospect. No E-patt included or linebrink.

So who's the prospect?

I wasn't aware the Padres had "high level" prospects

They don't. unless you think Cedric Hunter is.

why? What's so special about Barrett?

Getting rid of him is bliss. He has no business starting for the cubs.

Well then, that appears as a horrible trade.

Do you think the by high level they mean top prospect or high level meaning AAA?

Here are BA's top 10 prospects before 2007 season for the Padres:

1.	Cedric Hunter, of
2.	Cesar Carrillo, rhp
3.	Matt Antonelli, 3b
4.	Kevin Kouzmanoff, 3b
5.	Will Venable, of
6.	Chase Headley, 3b
7.	Chad Huffman, of
8.	Nick Hundley, c
9.	Jared Wells, rhp
10.	Cesar Ramos, lhp

Honestly, is anyone really surprised that Barrett is gone? After the Pierznyski fight, the fight with Zambrano, the argument with Hill, the poor start to the season, the defensive lapses?? He's been sitting a lot lately. Lou's comments about getting somebody that can "catch the damn ball". Contract year. Is anyone really surprised by this?

Can anyone tell me where Bowen rated as a prospect or how he's considered defensively?

At 26 it would appear he could have a little bit of offensive upside. He had a great year in '03 in AA and AAA at the age of 22 before getting a cup of coffee. They had him repeat AA the next year and he really struggled, but then in '05 he had a respectable season for a 24 year old catcher.

I'm guessing he's had some injury problems throughout his career.

How can you say that?

Levine was just on ESPN 1000. They still don't know who the prospect is though, but apparently the cubs put up more money so they could get a better prospect.

The Cubs are just stock piling middle relievers so they have what the Reds want for Griffey :)

After the trade the Reds will go with no set starting rotation and just rotate all of their pitchers with each throwing 3 innings at a time. It may be unconventional, but it was the only way they could fit more middle relievers on the roster.

Another question is, why do the Cubs think they need a C? Between Hill, Soto and Blanco, aren't they ok enough without having to aquire more catchers?

Blanco could be out for the season. You still not want to get another pitcher because Prior or Wood could be coming back???

Is it confirmed we traded EPatt or just a strong rumor?

If it's Barrett and EPatt for Linebrink and that other schumck, Cub fans should storm Tribune Tower with pitchforks and torches. Hendry is a flippin' moron if he pulled the trigger on that deal.

You're about the sixth person to make the complaint, but not one person has stated why its a bad deal with any amount of reason.

You want reason? Here is reason.

Barrett, like him or not, was the best catcher in our system. Our best option is now Bowen (assuming he's coming our way) and that's sad. EPatt is a top prospect in our system. That goes without saying.

So, if the rumors are true, we traded our top catcher (and not a bad one overall) and a top 5 prospect in our system for a good reliever and a backup catcher. A reliever that will maybe pitch 4-5 innings per week as opposed to a catcher who would play in 4-5 games per week, and a prospect that could have played second base for the next ten years.

Need more exlplination now, or are you good?

Bowen is 3 for 26 throwing out runners!!?!??! Crap.

you gotta remember that maddux and wells pitch for SD, they don't do a very good job of holding runners which pretty much makes it impossible to catch a runner stealing.

Barret 18% 7 for 39 (3 lefties pitching)

Bowen 12% 3 for 23 (maddux and Young are slow to plate)

How many runners moved up on passed balls for barrett.

Neither are good. but bowen wont fight our players. Good trade. good obp for bowen.

maybe the Padres made it contingent that Bowen comes our way if they take Barrett

Even if Blanco is out for the season, they still have Hill and Soto. If one of them got hurt, backup C's are always available.

Prior and Wood would have nothing to do with trading for a pitching prospect.
