Is it confirmed we traded EPatt or just a strong rumor?

If it's Barrett and EPatt for Linebrink and that other schumck, Cub fans should storm Tribune Tower with pitchforks and torches. Hendry is a flippin' moron if he pulled the trigger on that deal.

You're about the sixth person to make the complaint, but not one person has stated why its a bad deal with any amount of reason.

the addition of Linebrink would HAVE to be spell the end for Eyre. Right? RIGHT?

Nah, they'll send down Marmolicious to make room for him. It's the Cub thing to do.

And our bullpen?

Dempster, CL

Linebrink, SU

Howry, SU

Marmol, MR

Wuertz, MR

Ohman, MR

Eyre, LR

If we can get rid of Eyre and find a another capable left hander, that is looking like a solid pen, especially with the way Marmol is throwing the ball.

Gotta love ESPN. They have a SportsNation poll in the Barrett article:

Who's to blame for the Cubs' struggles this season?

- Michael Barrett

- Injuries

- Lou Piniella

- Carlos Zambrano

Where are the sporadic offense, Jim Hendry, bullpen and dumb luck options?

Linebrink's career as a closer has him completing a whopping 4 of 25 save opportunities.

He's replacing Dempster!!!

A lot of those were probably well before the ninth inning. Most likely, he was not in those games to finish them. I don't like the fact that a reliever can get a blown save in a "hold" situation.

What does our "best lineup" look like now?

Soriano

Pie

Lee

Ramirez

Floyd

DeRosa

Fontenot

Bowen

P

Yea two second basemen and no SS in the lineup makes me cringe too.

You do realize that every time a middle reliever gives up a tying run that he's given a blown save, right?

Linebrink has never been a primary closer for more than a day or two when Hoffman needs rest.

Either way, someone please explain to me how much impact Linebrink can have on our team except for taking innings from younger, cheaper options such as Wuertz and Carlos "The Hammer" Marmol...

Because it's a good offensive C and one of our top 5 prospects for a middle reliever. Linebrink is a very good middle reliever, but that's not what this team needs right now.

It's official. Barrett and some cash for Bowen and a high level prospect. No E-patt included or linebrink.

Well then, that appears as a horrible trade.

Wow, I didn't know that. Lame.

I think it's apparent why it's a bad deal. We traded a good MLB bat as well as a AAA player with a nice upside for a good reliever and not so good catcher.

So who's the prospect?

well then that's really, really dumb (depending on the prospect)

I'm pretty sure Barrett had to be dealt because neither Lou nor the pitching staff likes him (feels comfortable with him behind the plate).

As bad as the other deal was, at least we got a major league player that could help us now out of it.

I wasn't aware the Padres had "high level" prospects

right, I thought the Padres farm system was pretty barren right now

Can anyone tell me where Bowen rated as a prospect or how he's considered defensively?

At 26 it would appear he could have a little bit of offensive upside. He had a great year in '03 in AA and AAA at the age of 22 before getting a cup of coffee. They had him repeat AA the next year and he really struggled, but then in '05 he had a respectable season for a 24 year old catcher.

I'm guessing he's had some injury problems throughout his career.
