Tampa Bay gave him the shot that a bunch of posters here thought he deserved a few years ago with the cubs, and he has responded. You don't hear much about him, but he is having a great season in the #2 spot and playing SS. How good would his .321/.376/.502 (215 AB) look in place of Izturis's .250/.306/.306. I realize Iz has an edge on him defensively, but those offensive #'s easily make up for it. He was a double short of the cycle yesterday and a triple shy of the cycle a little over a week ago. I was mildly bummed when we traded him, and I'm extremely bummed now...

You, like Jim Hendry, greatly overrate Izturis's defense.

He would look great on this team but in defense of trading him it did take the kid awhile to figure it out... something he might not have done in Chicago.

Exactly-just at the end of 2005 his prospect status seemed to be gone. He was 25, and had just put up a 746 OPS in Triple A. It wasn't until halfway through 2006 when he was traded to the Reds that he even started to figure it out again in Triple A.

Plus, it's not like he was traded for somebody terrible-even looking back, I'd probably rather have Murton overall (Harris right now, but I think Murton has a better chance to have long-term production), and that's with knowing that Nomar would be hurt most of his time with the team, which we certainly didn't know at the time of the trade.

I never said Iz was a great SS defensively, i just said that he'd have an edge defensively over Harris, who seemed to be destined for 2B while he was with us. And who knows what he could've done with consistant playing time, before being given the everyday job this season he had a total of 110 AB spread out over 3 seasons with 4 different teams.

I'm not saying that i didn't like, or wouldn't have jumped all over, that trade. I'm just saying that i liked him when he was with the cubs, was sad to see him go, and am even more sad now that his OPS is 266 points higher than our everyday SS.

Small difference between BA and OBP does not bode well.

An .055 IsoD, while not spectacular, is certainly respectable for a guy in his 1st full ML season. The BABIP he's sporting may be a little high to be sustained, but his IsoD is far from a big worry in my eyes.

I'm riding his hot streak on my fantasy team...his BABIP worries me though

Same here. That Orlando Cabrera/ Mike Cuddyer for Felipe Lopez/ Lance Berkman trade backfired on me.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and guess that your fantasy team needs more than a Harris hot streak to get it going?

12th place out of 14 teams :D . I've sorta given up on it and focused more on my other team that's tied for 3rd.

Well I hate Izturis so maybe I am a bit biased in evaluating his lack of defense.

And I did like Harris too while he was here.

 I sure am glad I stuck with Cabrera, this month long hot streak has been great to both of my fantasy teams. ::rubs salt in wounds::

Eh, didn't see it coming. I thought I was getting the better of that trade.

And also in defense we did get Nomar at the time (correct?).

The Cubs organization never viewed Harris as a SS. Why? They buy into the traditional baseball wisdom (or stupidity is more like it), that SS is a defense first position. They'll trade hundreds of points of OPS for a marginal defensive upgrade. Besides Izturis, we've had Alex Gonzalez and Neifi Perez when we could have put guys like Theriot and Brendan Harris at that position. I hope the new ownership fires Hendry about 5 nanoseconds after buying the team.

He was behind Ben Zobrist to start the year, he just played well and Zobrist struggled and his ABs increased and Zobrist's decreased. He did have to work his way into the starting lineup and deserves that credit for working hard.

It's a pleasent surprise for the Rays and hopefully Brignac will get back on track and Harris could become a super utility type of player long-term.

You mean the Theriot with a 692 minor league OPS and a 669 OPS this year?

I said we had better options, not that the options we had were all that great. .669 is better than .613.

your "hundreds of points of OPS" was a gross exaggeration.
