no no no. Paul Sullivan just told me it was a nice two hopper that should have been easily handled.

hehe. Yeah, if that's the way you describe a throw that bounces twice before it ever makes it to the infield.

And why does Jones do that exaggerated shoulder turn when makes his throws. Its like he thinks he is cocking his gun or something.

realistically - 80% of the people on this board could throw better than Jones. He might have the worst arm of anyone I have seen in so long. I can't figure if it is arm strength or just technique - but why can he not throw it all the way in the air? I could walk out there today and do it and I don't play!

It's technique, Jones's arm itself is rather strong, he just can't come close to controlling it.

sorry, it just drives me crazy when he cannot even carry the infield dirt - it is like he is trying to throw a strike from 100 feet away - get the ball up...

I could do it 2-3 times, but then my arm would go numb and fall off.

Yeah Jones' throws are disgusting. Any major leaguer worth his salt would be able to throw that ball on a line to the catcher, not throw it 90 feet and have it bounce in. The guy is a joke and should not be starting in right field.

don't think anything in baseball angers me as much as not scoring a run with the bases loaded and no outs (and nobody hitting into a double play).

Personally, losing a 5-1 lead in the 9th inning with your closer on the hill angers me more.

I agree, but it's still an easy catch for Barrett too, since it's just rolling in.

Aww hell, we just have a real sucky defense at some positions. Put Jones & Barrett together on an exchange, it's no wonder they screw it up.

What I really didn't like was the look of disgust on Jones' face after Barrett dropped it. Like, START PLAYING LIKE A REAL BASEBALL PLAYER, then criticize another ballplayer Jones you loser.

I'd still rather see Jock Jones DFA'd today than Barrett gone. Barrett's terrible on D, but he can hit when he gets rolling. Jock is a joke, he's done, he isn't even trying and it's obvious.

It really isn't easy with a catcher's mitt preparing to take on a collision. They are designed to receive 90 mph balls on the fly or pad the hand when blocking balls in the dirt, not to field ground balls.

Why can't Jones just throw the ball higher? How hard is this to fix? Instead of releasing the ball here, do it here. It's not like teaching him to throw it harder or on-line, just higher. I seriously don't understand why this is still occuring.

Bruce Miles' account in the Daily Herald indicated that the throw bounced twice on the way to Barrett also.

With all due respect to bruce, I dont know what game he was watching. Jones spiked that thing into the dirt between first and second base and it hoped a few times then rolled up to Barrett.

what, you don't remember all of his rainbows? He doesn't just throw it low.

I only really remember him spiking it into the ground. I dunno.

It seems 95% of his throws go directly into the ground, with the rest being laserbeams that the backstop keeps from reaching the upper deck.

This is a similar frustration I had with Pierre. Pierre was a workout freak and pretty cut for a guy his size. He's obviously physically capable of throwing a ball hard. Why can't he do it? Same thing with Jones. He's obviously capable of throwing the ball well, how hard is it to release a little sooner?

Isn't the stat about the end result of the inning? The Cubs did score 1 run in the inning they had bases loaded and nobody out. Presumably to get the bases loaded there's a good chance you already scored. So they don't fall into the 12.8% category of no runs.

I think run expectancy charts are from the situation forward. So whatever happens prior to loading the bases doesn't really matter. I could be wrong though.

It is from that point forward.
