Michael Barrett woulda hit into a 2 out triple play there.

yeah, because he's been an offensive force this year. LOL, I'm not going to blame him for any more than what he has coming... I feared this game would come down to a botched play at catcher.

if it weren't for barrett's hit in the eighth, it wouldn't have come down to that.

Barrett (and Murton) also left 4 runners on base.

yeah, the whole team sucks...what's your point?

My point is Barrett didn't come through the majority of the game.

neither did hill, hill, izturis, jones, murton, ohman, soriano, pie, theriot, derosa, pagan, fontenot, or anyone else on this pathetic team. you're acting like barrett is the difference between a 28-35 team and a 50-13 team.

Murton and Barrett were the worst offenders in regulation because they had multiple chances.

Again, my beef with Barrett has to do with his glaring defensive deficiencies. If he can't raise his BA, OBP, and power numbers he's useless.

you can say that about everyone on this pathetic team.

barrett sucks right now, but so does everyone else.

The thing about Barrett is there's no alternative out there for him. Is it really the prevailing belief that Barrett is that horrible on defense that the just horrendous offensive production of Hill and Blanco are okay in his place?

So did Theriot and Izturis.

Theriot and Izturis aren't the run producers on the team (particularly Cesar).

I'm PO'd about the play at the plate! It was make able but he's a bad catcher and since he isn't driving in more runs than he allows, I'm calling him out.

As has been pointed out before as well, while Barrett's OBP is pretty abysmal, he's still slugging at a decent rate. There's definitely room for improvement on the offensive side, but he hasn't been horrible.

His defense has been much worse this season than it has in years past, but I really don't think he's gonna keep up this pace on defense. Guys go through rough stretches on defense like they do on offense, and I really don't see Barrett more than doubling his career highs in errors and passed balls.

It is for me. There's a big difference in Barrett hitting .249 and upwards of .300 like he has in the recent past. His bat isn't producing enough to justify his glove. At the very least, I would consider taking him out for defense late in games.

Aramis going down is bad timing.

How true! However, I'm not so sure he turns it around. He leads the Majors Leagues in passed balls and he's third in errors. He has single handedly cost us several games this year.

To what do you attribute a total collapse in defense? It's not like he's been broken down by injuries leading to him slowing down and not being able to move as well behind the plate. Errors and passed balls for catchers are probably the most reliant on the situation compared to other defensive positions. Barrett's never been great on D, but he's never been terrible. I just don't see him getting this bad for no real reason.

No manager would do that for fear the backup would get hurt.

Without question, the man simply can not catch the ball, if he's not hitting, he worthless and a very large liability.

thankfully i have emotionally distanced myself from this sad-sack bunch of chokers. honestly, anybody who believed that the cubs would still win after blowing that bases loaded, no out situation should be ashamed of their naivete.

I don't think he positions his body well to block pitches. When I compare his technique with other catchers, it appears that he tries to block with his glove instead of his body. Whatever the case, he's been terribly ineffective.

I think last night it was much worse that Jones bounced that ball 3-4 times than Barrett trying to catch it. Barrett had to rush and try to apply a tag.

Did he just start blocking with his glove this year? He had something like 4 PBs a couple years ago.

Oh, and great job finding intelligent people to sing the stretch.

"Buy me some popcorn and cracker jacks." POPCORN? She almost said apple jacks too!"

"IS THAT THE OUTFIELD?" Are you freakin kidding me???
