Thanks to the crappy umpiring the Cubs' bullpen is now shot for the next few days. Way to go, jerks. Something has to be done to stop this crap, and I mean IMMEDIATELY.

That might be the most unfair umpiring I've ever seen. No joke.

You can't tell me the umps are unbiased. All hail the mighty union, protector of morans and petulant, overweight mama's boys.

I've long suspected as much, not just in MLB but all other sports. Officials decide before a game that the only way a team less talented or one that has a losing record or otherwise "sucks" can't make good plays without cheating. So they end up looking for crap to call against said "sucky" team, while favoring the "good" team.

Just think, if we had Cuban as owner there would definitely be letters written to the commish complaining on how bad the umpiring has been.

I fully expect any questions asked toward Piniella will result in his excuse giving toward the umpires, and Mcdunnough to be on in the booth defending the umps and attacking his own players.

BOOK IT.

I encourage everyone to print out the photo CaliforniaRaisin placed in his sig and send it here:

Renteria needs to sit several games for that cheap shot. At least he injured his hand delivering it.

I, for one, am sending several. Along with a very harsh letter about tonights overall umpiring.

one person pointed out in the game thread, not only did the ump miss the punch to the face, he also missed Renteria coming off the base while Fontenot had the tag on him.

while Font's face did slow his momentum, it's pretty clear in that photo that Renteria had to come off the bag at some point. the question is whether Font had the tag on him at the time, and again, it appears physically impossible for a tag not to be applied while Renteria was off the bag considering the location of the glove between the arm and body.

exactly what was the ump watching there because it certainly wasn't the play.

I say we flood the commissioner's office with snail mail.

I just printed out 15 letters complete with an attached picture of the Renteria slide which I will be mailing tomorrow.

"It was just kind of weird," said Lilly, who had struck out the first two batters he had faced. "The fact that he told me that he was ready for this to happen and anticipated this, if that were the case, I don't understand why he wouldn't warn me before the game.

"Normally, if that's what he's expecting, I don't know why he delayed and then made his decision as late as he did. It was kind of strange. It just gets a little bit ridiculous. Guys have to pitch inside. I have to. You go over and look at tape, I pitch inside."

I hope somebody askes Wolf why he decided that with 2 strikeouts in the first inning, nobody on and an 0-2 count would be a perfect time for Lilly to hit a batter.

Bingo. You're not the only one wondering about this, Ted.

All of this is crap, yes... but am I the only one who noticed that Renteria was nailed at second? The replays that I remember clearly show Fontenot catching the armpit of Renterias jersey a good 6-7 inches before his foot even touched the bag. Did Fontenot drop the ball? I don't recall the play clearly after the hit

Nope. He had it clean. Looked like Renteria even overslid the bag anyway. He was out, plus he delivered an obvious intentional blow to the FACE of Fontenot -- who had nothing to do with any of this.

The umps raped us out of this series, it's very simple. They quite simply stole 1, maybe 2 games from us.

I want to know which hotel Wolf and Renteria shacked up at after the damn game.

Cuban would not sit idle on this. Cuban takes things a little to far in criticizin the refs in the NBA but in this instance he would have a lot of support. He would call Selig out and it would be fantastic.

The phots I've seen making it look like he's chopping Fontenot's neck, which, to me, makes it even worse and the chance of injuring a guy WHO HAD NOTHING DO WITH ANYTHING that much worse.

people keep saying this and I don't know why. it was a 2-0 pitch. I have no doubt in my mind it was intentional, just as there is no doubt in my mind Hudson's was intentional. that element isn't even needed to question exactly what the umpires were thinking and coming to the conclusion that they were out to screw the Cubs.

what someone should ask is why Tschida wasn't "expecting it" the night before. if you're going to pre-judge one team, you should pre-judge the other. what also must be asked is why Wolf issued warnings, then decided to kick Lilly out after escorting Renteria to first.

what also p's me off about this thing is the way the media has covered it. first, a couple of print write ups I have seen have failed to mention Edgar's tomahawk chop to Font's face all together. others have treated it more of a story about how the Cubs pen blew another game, burying the real events far down in the story.

and of course, Sportcenter buries it far into the show, somewhere after seven rehashings of a boring NBA finals game, an interview with Duke Lacross's former coach, lap by lap details of Nascar, former NBA'er saves dolphin, and highlights of games few care about.

a couple weeks ago the Yankees game was the lead story because there was a questionable strike call on Abreu to end the game. another lead a couple weeks before was a questionable out call at home against the Yankees. for some reason this game was compelling enough to move to Sunday night, but the events that transpired were not compelling enough to give it more importance in their coverage? and then when they do cover it, they do it in a way that removes much of the context of what transpired.

I was wondering that too. But when I heard the audio, even when Wolf was motioning like it was a warning, he was saying "that's it" and then "you're done" a little afterwards.

Seems like Wolf just made the wrong signal, which just adds to my opinion he's not a real solid ump. Actually I think he sucks to all unholy hell, but hey what can I say I'm trying not to put my fist through a wall right now.

That's the biggest problem. Wolf screwed up with his initial response. If he truly expected it, he would have tossed Lilly immediately. It was relatively justifiable, and plunking Renteria was blatantly on purpose. But you can't warn both benches then toss Lilly. It shows indecisiveness and contradicts his statement that he was expecting it.

I noticed that as well. I was watching the game with a Cardinals fan and even he was going crazy over the blown call. And when you go back and look at that picture, Renteria is grabbing Fontenot's glove with his right hand, and hacking his throat with his "injured" left hand.

If you watch the replay, when Renteria pops off 2nd base, he's still holding onto Fontenot's mitt.

How is what Renteria did at 2nd base any different than when Robert Fick hacked at Eric Karros in '03, or when A-Rod hacked at whoever was at 1st for the Red Sox a few years ago? Neither got a suspension, but were penalized heavily if I recall correctly. The braves issued a team suspension, i believe, to Fick. Either way, there should be a fine coming.

That's in, you're done means there will be no more plunking. It wasn't until after that that Wolf changed his mind and decided to throw Lilly out. It was more than just a wrong signal, it was complete umpire incompetence.

He was out by a solid margin. The ump at 2nd did a horrible job. he was all confused and barely made the call.
