13-6 cobs

i'd rather see them hit jones or rentaria in the first because they're hitting us so hard anyway, might as well make it sting while they get one base...

plus, one free base is better than giving up a bomb...

If Lilly doesn't throw at Andruw Jones in his first AB, I'll be annoyed.

Indeed.

I'd rather they win the game. If we are ahead by quite a bit throw at him.

The Braves managed to do both last night. It's not mutually exclusive.

What happened?

Hudson beaned Soriano on the first pitch of the game last night. Pretty obvious it was intentional.

Meh.

The Cubs through Jacque got little pay back on Hudson. But, I guess that is bound to happen at some point considering that when he actually hits the ball it is directly at someone.

i don't know what you are all talking about, i voted jacque for the allstar game

he is my favorite player of all time

i have his picture on the wall as well as his rookie card in a shrine right above my toliet

No reason to fire up the opposing team at their home park, and lets face it they won because Marquis couldn't pitch his way out of a paper bag last night. We should've won that game.

Not to mention the fact that the home plate umpire was being a complete ass.

lol yeah tschida really gave it to us last night.

and why are we blaming everything on marquis? sure, he didn't pitch well...but we didn't do anything after the third inning. gotta produce a little somethin against the bullpen.

and why are we saying we should have won last night? we didn't play well...the teams that play well win.

Well, just for the record. Soriano didn't get "beaned"....He was hit on the upper arm.

That is how a rumor quickly becomes fact.

Intentional? I have no doubt.

But he didn't get "beaned"...The arm and the coconut are two different body parts.

Beaned is just a loose term people use when a hitter got intentionally thrown at. Atleast that's what I've always heard.

If he doesn't get his arm up by his head it's a beaning. So maybe it officially wasn't a beaning but for all intents and purposes it was.

Game Notes.

DYNAMIC DUO: Alfonso Soriano and Felix Pie have been in the top 2 spots of the Cubs’ lineup since Pie was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to begin his second stint with the club June 3 … in the 7 games Soriano has led off and Pie has batted second, they’ve combined to hit .444 (28-for-63)

with 18 runs scored and 16 RBI … Chicago has gone 5-2 in the 7 games.

The 18 combined runs by Soriano and Pie in this 7-game stretch represent 41-percent of team’s total runs scored (44) … the 16 RBI between the two represent 40-percent of the club’s 40 total RBI over this stretch.

2,999+TONIGHT: Tonight, Cubs manager Lou Piniella will become just the 17th major league manager to reach 3,000 games managed in a career … he’ll be just the fourth active manager to reach the mark, joining St. Louis’ Tony LaRussa (4,345), Atlanta’s Bobby Cox (3,923) and the Yankees’ Joe Torre (3,741).

JUNE BOOM: The Cubs have a .286 batting average (91-for-318) in 9 June contests, the second-highest batting average in the N.L. this month behind only Colorado (.297) … Chicago’s 14 homers in June rank second in the League and third in the majors behind St. Louis (16) and

Cleveland (15).

Alfonso Soriano leads the N.L. this month with 19 hits, 11 runs, 6 home runs and a 1.024 slugging percentage … teammate Mark DeRosa leads the League with 10 RBI in June.

More from the Game Notes....

NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME: The Cubs are in the fourth game (2-1) of a stretch that features 7-straight night games through Wednesday … this run began Thursday evening in Atlanta and will continue through the final game of this 4-game set, as well as Monday night vs. Houston and the following 2 nights vs. Seattle … the Cubs next day game is Thursday, June 14 vs. the Mariners.

This is Chicago’s longest stretch of night games this season … after this run under the lights, the Cubs will play 4 consecutive home day games through June 17 vs. San Diego.

QUALITY IS JOB ONE: Cubs starting pitchers have allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in 7 of the team’s last 8 games while recording quality starts in 5 of those games … on the season, Chicago has received 32 quality outings from its rotation and the club has gone 22-10 in those games …

Cubs starters have recorded a 1.70 ERA (42 ER/223.0 IP) in those 32 quality starts. This season, Rich Hill and Ted Lilly are tied for the club lead with 8 quality starts apiece …

Jason Marquis has 7 and Carlos Zambrano has 5, while Sean Marshall has recorded quality efforts in all 4 of his starts this season.

The Cubs are in the 10th day (5-4) of a stretch that sees the club play 17 consecutive days through June17 …

Chicago is slated to play 5 straight series against clubs with a winning record, beginning with the just-completed 3-game sets vs. Atlanta (1-2) and at Milwaukee (2-1) …

Chicago has a June 11 makeup game vs. Houston in the midst of this stretch.

my guess is that Lilly plunks Andruw Jones and then gets tossed.......by Tschida at third base

while I want someone on the Braves to pay the price for Hudson and Cox's actions last night, I am confident that any Brave batter that gets hit by a pitch tonight will result in an instantaneous ejection of the pitcher and Lou, with suspensions to follow, regardless of the intent of the pitcher or evidence of said intent.

I feel this is one that will have to wait until next year, when hopefully Hudson will still be a Brave, and pay back can come against the actual offender.
