Oh, so total Piniella jersey sales = 1.

another interesting aside from the report

we've sold more Lou Piniella jerseys since they hired him with the Cubs then they did with Dusty Baker in four years.

Lou's mom is still alive.

ESPNEWS says 4 games.

He's already been suspended 1. Does that mean he's gone for the Milwaukee series?

Manager suspensions are pretty silly and largely symbolic. He's still going to be there right? Lou is going to dictate the lineup card and who should be used when and where. I don't think Trammel is going to feel comfortable making any move he knows Lou would never make.

Just found out how many games. 5 games are you serious. I've said it before this just bleeds MLB is afraid of the Umpire union.

I'm sure Trammel already has the "if/then" list handy.

I would blame him for most of the bullpen's issues. He's put terrible relievers in the worst possible positions, and the team has suffered because of it.

Do I have this straight?

Lou has put terrible relievers in the worst possible position?....Which means there must be not so terrible relievers he should use more often.

Who are those relievers that are not so terrible?.....Wuertz?....Demptster?...Guzman? If they are the ones you refer to, they have cost the Cubs ballgames coming out of the pen just like the terrible ones.

So who are the rest that must be terrible?.....Howry?....Ohman?...Eyre?

Funny thing is, Howry, Ohman and Eyre all admit they have been bad but if Piniella ignores them by not using them, the others (that may not be quite so bad) will be worn out within weeks.

Doesn't leave much else.

You manage to win games that are in May in May. You worry about July in July. You don't put crap relievers in just in case Wuertz and Dempster get burnt out by summertime.

Seriously, how does that logic make sense to you? You're going to put bad players in games just so you don't lose games in July...thereby losing games in May?

Come on.

A more fitting punishment would be to not suspend Lou and make him watch this sorry bunch of slugs play baseball.

Having to manage the Cubs is punishment enough. This is like a get out of jail free card.

Oh yeah. It's his team. He'll make the line-up card. Bob Brenly made it clear that when managers get ejected, they sit in the tunnel watching the game on TV and yelling out orders. It's almost like they're never gone.

Yes, I realize games in May are just as important as July....I know a game is a game is a game.

But you infer Piniella uses the worst possible relievers in the worst possible position. I'm just wondering who those not so terrible relievers are that he should use more often and if used more often, who do you replace them with when their arms fall off?

And if Howry, Ohman and Eyre are the terrible relievers what should be done with them? Easy to say "dump them" but you're talking about some pretty good sized salaries to swallow.....and who do the Cubs have that are any better?

Right or wrong Piniella has given them every chance to succeed, trying to build up their confidence. Meantime, most have failed, so just where do you go from here? What realistically should be done to correct the problem?

Interesting. Yet the minor leaguer manager for the AA Braves was suspended for 3 games, even though that was the Braves decision, not MLB.

Soooooo, that minor league guy who ripped out two bases, tossed them in the outfield and later took them with him further into the outfield and mimed throwing a grenade at an umpire and pretty much losing his mind gets 1 game less than Lou did for kicking his hat and some dirt around and on an ump? I know they're seperate leagues... but seriously?

Edit: Coach C beat me to it
