It's June 1. The Cubs stink in all facets of the game, and the record reflects it. Carlos Zambrano doesn't look like the same Z we've come to love. Could he be dealt during the season to help the Cubs re-build? What do you think?

Answer 2 questions:

1. Carlos will be dealt:

A. Between now and June 15

B. Between June 16 and June 30

C. Between July 1 and July 15

D. Between July 16 and 31

E. He will not be dealt.

2. If he's dealt, his new team for the rest of the season will be from the:

A. AL EAST

B. AL CENTRAL

C. AL WEST

D. NL EAST

E. NL CENTRAL

F. NL WEST

I'll tally up the results on Sunday night or Monday morning.

I'm going to go with E. Jim Hendry is too stupid to do the right thing.

ya thats what my reasoning for picking E was. But after this fight incident im not so sure anymore.

I'm thinking both could be dealt. The Cubs will get pennies on the dollar in both deals. This season is done. It's time to blow it up.

Agreed.

Imagine how much more we would've gotten if this had been blown up last year like it should have been.

I try not to dwell on the negative.

I think Barrett and Z have big value. Sure, their performances this year are sobering, but you can't judge a player's future based on less than 200AB or 2 months of pitching after years of solid consistency. If that were the case, then Paul Konerko is an inconsistent bum and Mariano Rivera should retire.

Barrett has the reputation for being one of the better hitting catchers in baseball, which gives him lots of trade value, IMO, since good offensive catchers are hard to come by.

Zambrano has put up consistent numbers each year he's pitched, and even though he's had his struggles this year, I'm sure every team in the majors would love to have him.

If we ship off Barrett and Zambrano each, we should get some nice players in return. Of course, with Hendry at the helm, we'll likely get some minor league journeyman prospects in return

is there really any history to show Hendry doing poorly at trading a big time player? I think Zambrano will bring in a good deal - particularly if you get contenders bidding against each other.

I would consider Sosa and Maddux big time players and he got about the worst possible players you could imagine for them.

Someone told me about a Salty for Z rumor. Im sure its BS but Id pull the trigger in a heart beat.
I'm not sure about a rumor, but I suggested it as a possibility in one of the threads (someone else mentioned getting Salty and Johnson, which would be even better, but not likely to happen IMO). I think it's at least plausible, since Salty is blocked at catcher for several more years by McCann, and Z could revert to form with a fresh start elsewhere (much like Fergie Jenkins did with Texas many years ago after his Cubs tenure ended on a down note).

no way I would do that deal.

This is a realistic deal and wouldn't be too bad. With the Blanco injury and the fact that Barrett is playing godawful, the Cubs certainly appear to need a catcher pretty badly. This deal wouldn't be spectacular, but I wouldn't be horribly disappointed either. I still think it's going to take Z having a string of good starts before the Braves or anyone else give up much for him.

Only if I'm getting some prospects who aren't like the last guy that the Braves tried to dump on us. Else I just sit tight for a bit and hope that Z can turn it around to be dealt towards the end of the month.
