I'm on board. Using Eyre as he did today is unforgiveable. Eyre has proven all year long that he stinks; there is absolutely zero excuse for Lou using Eyre with a one-run lead.

ding ding ding we have a winner. Why is it that basically all of us know this but our old senile manager cant?

Can someone tell me when we're going to get the "angry old man" Piniella, the screaming at umpires, kicking dirt, throwing bases around the infield variety? It seems all we got was the "old [expletive]" Piniella.

Seems like we've had more than one manager who was willing to argue for his team elsewhere, but arrives in Chicago and suddenly becomes a teddy bear.

His inability to manage a bullpen is brutal. Wasting Ramirez in the 7th and putting Jones in CF was also a joke. Of course, when the game went to extra innings, that burned us two guys right there and left our bench really short.

I'm beginning to see why we're so bad in one-run games.

Look at what he did after the game ended. He came out to talk to the ump and after a quick chat, just walked back to the dugout. The slightly younger Lou would've had a fit.

I hope Lou has a revelation tonight that goes something along the lines of, "my bullpen shouldn't be so bad, maybe I'm doing something wrong".

Agreed. But I still blame the offense for not showing up yet again today...

You forgot about having our cleanup hitter Barret attempt a sac bunt. Brilliant I tell you just freaking Brilliant!!

Could we get a list of things that he's doing wrong? So far I have:

1) Inability to manage his bullpen during games, inability to determine who should actually be in the bullpen in between games

2) Starting people in the outfield who clearly should be on the bench

Others?

barrett seems to do that on his own a lot of times, and part of me thinks that is what he got balled out for after eyre gave up ethier's shot. like "well, if you hadn't bunted there, maybe that homerun wouldn't be as big a deal."

bunting with your cleanup hitter. Trying to steal 3rd with 2 outs. Id really like to know if the steal sign was on or not. I have to think it was because I really dont think Barret would just steal 3rd with 2 out like that

Did Murton try to steal with him? If not, I doubt the steal sign was on-there would be no reason for Barrett to go and not for Murton to go.

Ramirez pinch-hitting was the best move. Lou couldn't win there either, because there were several people in the game thread calling him several different names if he didn't PH with Ramirez there. What better situation can you put your biggest hitter on the bench in then bases loaded in the late innings?

iirc, murton did not take off.

is it just me and my terrible memory, or does it seem like barrett does that kind of stuff a lot? like he doesn't think things through.

Why in the hell did he bring in Eyre? What does it take for these cubs managers to learn? Haven't Eyre and Howry lost us enough games already?

That's the one I just don't understand-there is simply no reason for him to be in the game there until he shows that he has started to pitch better in blowout games, which he hasn't done.

unfortunately, i think the media focus is going to be on barrett's play and game winning wild pitch instead of the ridiculous decision to bring in eyre.

man, little worked lou over this weekend with the l/r matchups.

Did it seem to anyone else like Lou had absolutely no ideawhat he was doing today?

I know a lot of it is dealing with Hendry's roster full of left feet, but jesus. Perfect opportunity to pick up a game on everything today and they piss themselves.

If it wasn't for our bullpen we would be in 1st place right now. our bullpen is terrible and mismanaged.

Ok, I understand that. But why not leave him in the game at 3B after that AB?

Yeah but Barrett played ultimately the dumbest game I've ever seen a major leaguer play. He deserves to be criticized for his awful game today. But that move to bring in Eyre was equally as dumb.
