I dont care if I am not being politically correct or not, but I am absolutely sick of this hip-hop-above-the-law-thug culture that exsists in sports today. They should have NO tolerance for something like this and he should never be allowed to play ball again, let somebody who is actually a decent human being take is place. And for the love of God, can we get some of these people English lessons!!!!!!!

Hmm....what??? I am sick of these spoiled athletes who act like they are above the law, it is completely out of control! And if people are trying to take my comments to be racist or whatever, it's not meant to be. I might be a little country, but I have a white neighbor that acts the same way and I want to smack the stupid out of him as well, so "these people" was not meant soley towards black people like I think some of you took it. To the person who said it doesn't have anything to do with hip-hop, I meant that the image that is portrayed by a lot of main stream hip hop artists is very similar to the attitudes of a lot of the athletes that I am sick of, certainly not all, but quite a few. Sorry if my views dont match a lot of yours, but I could really care less if I am PC and I am sick of athletes such as Mr. Dukes.

So what set him off at her? I am assuming she cheated on him? Tampa Bay is really running a great minor league organization. This guy, Toe Nash, Delmon Young, BJ Upton, and Josh Hamilton.

LOL, this is a message board and I just type my messages as quick as possible, so I apologize if my posts aren't always spelled right or if I have double negatives like I did in the first sentence. It's still easier to decipher than anything Mr. Dukes said.

I haven't really followed the Rays very closely, but what did BJ Upton do? As for what she did, it had to be something like cheating to set him off that bad, or else he is just really unbalanced.

BJ got arrested last summer for DWI.

As for what set off Dukes, maybe he hasn't been paying child support on the 2nd child since they're still officially married and she was about to file for child support which would take away even more of his money (not that I'd agree with this sentiment, but it would seem along the lines of his thinking).

Hip hop has nothing to do with any athletes behavior. Country music is the most popular form of music in the world. It stands to reason there's a huge number of athletes that listen and enjoy country music. They may drive trucks, wear cowboy hats, drink whiskey like water, etc.

Should we blame Kenny Chesney when someone like Josh Hancock drives drunk and gets killed? Lots of drinking in country songs, after all. Or when Brett Myers knocks around his wife? Or when someone kills there husband-I mean, Dixie Chicks wrote a hit song about killing a husband.

You can't lump in an entire musical/cultural genre with a small group of reckless, stupid individuals. It's not hip hop culture that causes athletes to act like idiots no more than country music does. It's a deeper issue than that. There are going to be bad people of all walks, just as there are going to be great people of all walks. For every Elijah Dukes, there's a Tim Duncan or Shaquille O'Neal, or Derrek Lee, or Michael Barrett, or Dwayne Wade-someone who's a terrific human being and fantastic role model for whatever culture or background they come from.

You may not personally like hip hop, but that doesn't give you the right to damn an entire genre/culture like you're doing.

there were several things in the first post that would suggest a lot of racism in your post, "these people" notwithstanding.

it's not about being 'pc,' it's about not stereotyping people, and trying to remember that there are people who do bad things, and people who do good things, hard as that may be to do.

I will let this be put to rest now, but I am sorry if I came accross that way, I truely did not mean it that way. After looking back at the post I guess I could have expressed what I was trying to say better, but I will not back down from what I said that a lot of these athletes (no matter the race) are out of control. Here is a good quote to sum up how i feel

Dwight: And I do not care if that convict is white, black, Asian, German, or some kind of halfsy. I do not like criminals.

if you want to let it die, fine. i just truly hope you see the big difference between there being a lot of athletes being out of control and these hip hop thug culture people who need english lessons.

The only thing I will say about this is that he should be at least suspended for a very long time by MLB, but I doubt Selig has the stones to take a stand much like his NFL counterpart has begun to do. What Dukes did is considered a felony offense in California and could get him up to three years in prison for each threat. Plus it counts as a 'strike' for the 3-strikes law (although had he actually just hit her instead of just threatening to kill her it wouldn't be a strike, but that's a discussion for a different day in a different thread!)

I didnt mean all of hip-hop, what I said was "the image that is portrayed by a lot of main stream hip hop artists". You are kidding yourself if you dont think that that image exsists. Also what I said is that a lot of athletes are acting similar to that image, where did I say that they are the way they are because of Hip-Hop??? BTW, I do actually like some hip-hop.

I can't even begin to say what should happen to him if this is true.

At the same time, how can someone like Dukes be so stupid as to leave a trail of threats? It doesn't take a Mensa member to know that voicemail messages can be saved and replayed for people, and that text pictures can be saved and forwarded on to others.

I guess there is nothing like making it easy for the cops ...

She said that she didn't file a report before because she was worried it would "hurt his career." He probably took her past tolerance of his abuse for granted, and assumed she would again not report him.

That, and he's stupid.

Some guys are just plain stupid.

You're on your way to becoming a multi-millionaire. If you are having issues with your current trophy girlfriend, dump her and find a new trophy girlfriend.

How hard can that be?

I think "issues" is putting it lightly. Don't act like a waste of life is probably a better place to start.

His mother says he went to the school April 30 after discovering NiShea Dukes cleaned out his bank account.

I'd be pissed if someone did that to me in the middle of a messy divorce. It's a quote from his mom, so who knows if it's 100% accurate, but it fits with the next piece of evidence.

NiShea Dukes, who has two children with Elijah, has asked for $28,000 a month in alimony and child support, according to court records. Dukes' pay averages about $29,230 a month.

Mrs. Dukes allegations may/may not be true, but she's certainly a gold digger.

I'll wait until I see some hint of evidence that her allegations of death threats are true. There is nothing to substantiate her claims as far as I can tell.

My first thing if I was involved in a divorce would be to either take her name off the account completely, or move my money to a place where she couldn't get to it. With that being said though, I would still be pissed if this happened. I don't think I'd threat her kids, and probably not her either but with tensions being strained with the current circumstances I could see it. At this point, I cut her off 100% until everything is settled in court and the papers are final.

Asking for almost all of his pay is ludicrous, though. I'd be nice and give her around 15%. If she isn't happy with $4500 a month for 2 kids, I'd tell her to go blow it out her ear because she isn't getting any more.
