(5) Glaus to the Tigers

(6) Al Reyes to the Brewers

(7) Rauch to the Red Sox

As FJM discusses, the Rolen to LA suggestion is pretty dumb. Rolen is expensive and appears to be pretty bad at this point (and with very little power). He's 32 and struggled with injuries. I don't see him providing a lot of pop in LA.

Why not Griffey to the Cubs. I don't know what his the length of contract looks like, but we certainly have enough relievers to send the Reds a few more.

Quite nasty if we'd have to pay his deferred salary:

Ken Griffey Jr. of

9 years/$116.5M (2000-08), plus $16.5M 2009 club option

* 00-08:$12.5M/year, 09:$16.5M club option ($4M buyout)

* $57.5M in salary deferred at 4% interest, to be paid 2009-2024, reducing contract's present-day value at time of signing to between $9.2M and $9.3M annually, according to Reds management sources

o $5.5M of 2000 salary deferred

o $6.5M/year of 2001-2008 salaries deferred

* agent: Brian Goldberg

* ML service: 18.000

Forget it unless the Reds would pay a big chunk of the money, but Griffey (when healthy) in the lineup would certainly look good.

I think the Dodgers have pretty much canned the Wilson Betemit experiment

Betemit heated up recently and has earned at least some of his pt back

It would be a predictable move by the Dodgers. Block a talented prospect like Andy LaRoche with an aging veteran like Rolen.

Pierre, Gonzalez, Nomar. It would be nothing new for them.

Very small sample size in regards to LaRoche's AVG and SLG at this point, but the 13 walks in 30 at bats is pretty alarming.

How often do you see a guy with a .233 AVG and a .467 OBP?

Wow, I knew Rolen has been bad this year, but I just noticed how awful he really has been. Aside from his injury ridden year in '05 he's been solid every year of his career. I wonder why he's been so bad this year.

Either way, I hope he keeps stinking it up and the Cards are unable to trade him and are forced to pay him 12M per year through 2010.

Probably because Griffey to the Sox has been floated for many years.

Yeah, but Rolen still leads the league in RBIw/G for infielders.

I actually like that idea. Griffey would be a huge impact bat at the deadline. Cubs desperately need power from the left side in their lineup and Griffey would be that guy. The risk of him being injured is pretty high, but that should be a risk Hendry should take if it is the right deal.

Would we have enough to give them in return though? I'd love to have Tex on the team.

One would be free agent for another......Zambrano for Tex

Teixeira has one more year of arbitration after this year.

But yeah, he'd be pretty perfect.

Perhaps. Or they could trade Murton, Jones and multiple young arms, guys like Veal, Gallagher, Marshall, etc. You could think about sending Colvin. While guys like Fox and Matt Craig would make interesting additions.

Is Teixeira even a good outfielder. I know he played like 20-30 games in LF and RF his whole career, but adding him would give us 2 gold glove first basemen. Would he be so inclined to move to RF after he's established himself as a dominant defensive 1B?

Not that I think we'll get Tex in the first place :?

As a Red Sox fan, I'm waitin for Miguel Cabrera to hit the market.

After he is traded and signs a long term deal with the Cubs, he will be 38. How much production will he have left at that age?

I'd rather have Aramis at his $75M contract than Cabrera and the $150M+ contract he'll command :)

I'm fairly confident he'd be good enough.

It's hard to say if he'd move. But ARod moved to 3B, and he was inline to being the greatest SS of all time. Chipper moved to the outfield, and then back to third. Guys move positions pretty frequently. If the Cubs traded for him, I don't think he'd sit out, or grumble. And if they offered him a market friendly contract, I'd bet he'd be willing to stay as a corner OF instead for forcing himself to another team where he could play 1B.

Why not both? You only live once!

Cabrera did start out as a corner outfielder........ now I get it!
