This would be one of the stupidest decisions in recent Cubs history.

Hendry's extension?

That's number one on the short list.

Signing Baker?

That's on there too.

Nolasco and Mitre for Pierre?

Don't forget Pinto (21 IP, 3.00 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, .233 BAA) who has been better than Nolasco this season.

Wow, Mitre's been solid this season...I just looked at his numbers (40 IP, 2.25 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, .235 BAA). :(

Good point. What an awful trade.

To be fair, Mitre has given up 15 R, but only 8 are counted as ER. Something tells me he got lucky one of his boys gave up an error right when he was ready to implode on himself like normal.

Nolasco, Pinto, and Mitre for Pierre. And Corey Patterson for Nate Spears.

Since CPatt outperformed Pierre last year, the deal is looking awfully more and more lopsided.

$136 million for Alfonso Soriano is far worse than any of these, except maybe the Hendry extension.

I can only assume Hendry and Lou will DFA Cotts before he gets back to the dugout.

No, he's got to assume a greater role when we relegate Eyre & Howry to cleanup duty, remember? LOL.

no...as we've seen, it's not the guy who sucks that gets punished, it's an arbitrary young player. my money is on veal being sent to extended spring training.

if the move really is to simply swap the roles of dempster and guzman, you just have to laugh. if anyone really thinks that taking two guys who are doing their jobs and just switching their roles is going to fix anything, that person shouldn't be in baseball.

hey, let's just have lee play lf and soriano play 1b...see what happens.

I really don't understand this move.

Wasn't Guzman sent down to AAA to be stretched out? And now he's getting moved to the pen. I'm going to be furious if either Dempster or Miller get the 5th starter spot because neither should be an option. Miller was horrible in his starts this year and Dempster has been solid as a closer with the exception of two outings. I still won't be happy if Marshall takes the 5th starter spot but I'll at least be open to it.

Well, Guz really only has 2 pitches at the moment and we're not talking two pitches that are delivered in an almost identical fashion like Rich Hill has.

The pen is where he should be until he gets that changeup going.

Sure. In time I think it will most likely land on the short list of the worst contracts in the history of sports.

I don't even think it will be one of the worst in baseball in several years. For example, Soriano would have to average a .700 OPS or worse the next several years to be as bad as Hampton and Chan Ho Park were with their big contracts for the teams that signed them. Barry Zito's contract has a good chance to be just as bad or worse than Soriano's. Mo Vaughn's 6 year deal ended up with 2 years of production. The Ken Griffey Jr. deal. The Darren Dreifort deal.

Even if Soriano is bad, and ends up with an 800 OPS the next 3-4 years, and then starts slowly falling after that, he still will be better than those deals.

Moving Guzman to AAA turned out the be the right move as he came back better, and it was criticized by several people here. I'd like to see him remain starter, but nobody said this is a permanent move to the pen and nobody knows how it will ultimately work out.

As for Miller and Dempster, I have no idea what is happening here and I don't think anyone else does yet, either.

I was fine with Guzman being sent to AAA earlier in the year because the Cubs said it was to stretch him out to become a starter. Now they're supposedly moving him to the pen which wouldn't help him as a starter. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

ok i dont want to read 21 pages. recap please?

Guzman still going to pen.

Dempster confirmed in a Comcast interview that he has been asked by Lou to become the 5th starter.

Most think it's crazy, I think it's risky.........and that's about it.

edit: **whoops** I missed the whole Dempster retraction thing.

I really can't be expected to keep up with all this, can I? Sheesh.

Angel Guzman was sent to the bullpen.

No new starter named. Or Dempster was named the new starter. Or they took it back. Who knows.

I must hand it to them, they've certainly kept my attention well after a four run loss.

The Chicago Cubs made a bad decision.

I know, I know..."Could you please be more specific?".

Big surprise tomorrow is....

Kerry Wood is completely healthy and will be moving into the rotation.

Seriously, what is the surprise going to be?

If there is a so-called "surprised" that isnt Guzman to the pen... It's:

-Marshall to the rotation

-Marmol to the rotation

-Trade
