Increasingly I believe Hendry will throw even more money at the bullpen to try to fix it. It's just his nature. He'll trade for another veteran reliever with a big salary.

With the way the lineup was constructed today and where the last out was made, there wasn't a really good double switch option available. The closest one would really be Murton, but he's at the 2 spot-which doesn't help very much.

This is total crap. Howry needs to be DFA'd in the *worst* damn way. I don't care about the contract.

 

Unfortunately, Eyre needs the boot as much as Howry. It's just a mess right now.

Critical thinking, anyone? The problem is Piniella bullpen management more than anything. Howry had no business being in that position if his performance is so bad that we needed to weaken our rotation AND bring a guy up from AAA just to sit while he blows games.

This all just goes to show how shifty and unpredictable relievers are. You could have made a very good case the Cubs had the best bullpen in the league prior to the start of the season.

 

Relievers should not be signed to multi-year contracts.
