IMO, Eyre got the DP ground ball, but Theriot for some season gets the worst "jumps" on groundballs of any middle IF I have ever seen. I actually thought Eyre did his job today

I agree with this.

The Delgado ball was not all that well-hit, and Theriot didn't have that far to range. It may have been tough to turn two, but I don't think there's any excuse for that ball leaving the infield.

It was more Theriot's fault that it was Eyre's..

With Marmol coming up, I think someone is going to be a goner soon.

Lou wants 12 pitchers. So thankfully we'll have a guy who sits around for 5-6 days at a time and then comes in cold.

Marmol up only means they lack bench help. They'd need another guy to find a goner.

You are wrong. Theriot was shaded up the middle and had very far to range.

Eyre, who has struggled most of the year, wasn't apologetic.

"I made the pitches I want to make: David Wright, a sinker down and away," said Eyre, who suffered his third blown save. "I got him to ground out two nights ago. This time, I don't think he got the ball out of the infield on the fly. Delgado hit a groundball through the infield. I got a groundball. I'm not going to sit here and whine about it, you know?"

hey, you know what, scotty, since you got wright out two nights ago, i guess i'm not mad at you for giving up the hit yesterday. getting him out two days ago is good enough for me.

I don't understand getting pissed at pitchers for giving up hits. All the pitcher can do is throw the ball. A ball in play that isn't a rocket/homer is going to fall in or be an out pretty much at random.

i'm just annoyed by his excuses.

Understandable. Although at least his excuses are actually pretty accurate. It's probably best to say nothing, but then you go the other way with Dempster tipping his cap to everybody. Yesterday's game leaves a bad taste in everybody's mouth, but it boils down to two things in my opinion, Dempster not getting regular work leading up to the game, and Dempster not throwing strikes. I can't be pissed at Eyre for that loss. I can't blame Theriot for not getting the ball or Murton for not throwing the runner out. They scored 5 runs with a banged up lineup, the starting pitching and most of the bullpen was fine. It was Dempster and the walks that lost that game.

I think it would be a mistake to release Eyre.

Although if it gets to the point where he's the fans' whipping boy in Wrigley, and the boo him mercilesslly, then they might just be forced to give him away. But they still won't release him, they will trade him, even if they get a C prospect and have to pay half the salary.

I know he's been bad most of the year, but I still think it's a mistake to blame him for yesterday.

Yeah, it's not right to blame Eyre for yesterday specifically since Dumpster couldn't cut it, but he gave up the winning runs so damn quick it was unbelievable. And he's really been shaky the entire year.

The thing is, Eyre's not the only one and shouldn't be the sole whipping boy in the BP. It's really been a combo of all of them.

Am I missing something with the Dempster hatred for this season?

People are carrying over their hatred from last year after the most recent game. He's been fine most of the year and most of his time as a Cubs reliever. Nothing special, but fine.
