Did Blanco touch 2B?

Wouldn't matter as long as Ward touched first.

Does Ward even matter with just one out? So long as Murton scores and they don't double us up, wouldn't the run count?

Either Ward or Blanco had to touch 1st or 2nd base respectively. If neither touches and the Nationals tag 2nd and 1st then it's a force DP and Murton's run doesn't count. As long as one of them touches then it eliminates the DP and Murton's run counts.

Ok, that's what I was thinking.

Piniella is looking to get more playing time for Ward per ESPN.com

Why?!? Yes, he came up big in the last game...but those 2 hits were only his 2nd and 3rd hits of the season! Let them man pinch hit!

Piniella is looking to get more playing time for Ward per ESPN.com

Because the locals papers said that when the weather warms and off-days start to disappear, he's going to have to start giving guys like Lee a day off here and there, which would mean Ward plays. It's just ESPN taking local news, twisting the headline and trying to make it look like their own.

I believe the quote was: ''I have to get him in there once in a while,'' Piniella said. To me that's just a manager talking about a guy who hasn't been playing much in the midst of all sorts of questions about playing time for outfielders.

Oh, well that's different. Lou has said from day one that he wants to get everyone at least a few days off throughout the season, so Ward playing in that context is fine. "Getting him more playing time" sounds much more general and depressing.

let's get moving with the new game thread, davhern

I've been thinking the same thing, but I've also thought the same thing the last few games as those threads were started relatively late too. His record as a starter is probably as good as NSBB has had the last couple years though, so I wasn't about to question what's happening.

Is the new thread supposed to start midnight following the previous game, or midnight prior to the upcoming game?
