What the hell? That doesn't make any sense. I kind of understand the idea of fitting Izturius to theoretically give Guzman some better defense to back him up, but DeRosa in RF instead of Murton or Jacque or Floyd deprives him of some decent offensive support. I hope this isn't actually the lineup.

DeRosa eats lefties for breakfast, historically. Even has a better OPS the last two years against lefties than Murton.

 

Yes, the best lineup would be Murton and Derosa both, but someone wants Izturis to play today apparently. Derosa's definitely a better choice than Floyd/Jacque against a generic lefty.

With Cedeno down, this lineup doesn't make much sense to me-you really can't take out Izturis, Theriot, or DeRosa now early because that would leave you 2 IF's and no backup.

Jones might be in CF and, reportedly, both Floyd and Murton have nagging back injuries (DeRosa too for that matter) but that could be why Mark is in RF today.

Theriots D at ss is not horrible enough to justify starting Izturis.

With Floyd hurt, Pie could be starting and either Murton or Jones sitting. I would guess (though I hope I'm wrong) Jones in left, Pie in center and DeRosa in right.

 

The question then is, why isn't Murton starting? Not sure, unless his back is bothering him again.

 

EDIT: Yeah, I completely forgot about our 136-million dollar man in center. Thus, Jones in left, Sori in center and DeRosa in right is likely. Though there's a chance Soriano could be in left and Pie in center.

i hope so. i don't know why you would want to keep the guy making a couple million for 2 more years over the guy making peanuts over the next several years. given the fact that their offense is comparable and any advantage jones has on defense is mitigated by the fact that he makes more money by a lot, it doesn't make sense to trade Murton unless there are absolutely no suitors for Jones -- and I doubt that's true.
