From the stats, I can see they are 2-1 with 4.05 ERA in 5 starts averaging a little over 5 innings per start, and 2-2 with 3.49 ERA in 5 starts averaging close to 6 innings per start, respectively.

Marmol is on the 40 man roster, and Walrond could be placed on the 40 man by DFAing somebody or moving Prior to the 60 day DL list.

Sun Times is speculating that with Angel Guzman's poor start last night, it may open the door for Marmol or Walrond if the Cubs decide to pitch their 5th starter on the 6th. If they stick with Lilly on the 6th, they would require the 5th starter to pitch on the 12th against Philadelphia. By then, it is entirely possible that Wade Miller and even Guzman (with the benefit of another start) may be back in the mix.

Still hoping that Hendry trades Jacque Jones for a 5th starter. Easier said than done, of course.

I hope not Walrond since he really has no future, so if we are going to call up a pitcher who might struggle, I would say bring up a younger guy to get experience and not a retread.

Marmol or Marshall should be options, but I hope Walrond isn't. Marmol has had back-to-back bad starts as his control woes have returned. Marshall's only got his second start of the season today - and the first was at Daytona. He hasn't thrown over 70 pitches yet in either start so he might still need to build up arm strength.

I would call up Guzman anyways.

I don't wanna see Walrond again. That's desperation.

Amen.

If it were my decision, I'd still call up Guzman.

If Pat Gillick wants to be a moron, we might as well let him.

Take your pick, Jimbo.

I'm not sure if Prior could be moved to the 60-day DL since he's on Iowa's DL. I'm not sure if there is a minor league 60-day DL. The Cubs could recall Prior and immediately put him on the 60-day DL, but then he'd be accruing more service time. They could put Wood (or preferably Miller) on the 60-day.

Marmol just had a mediocre outing on the 30th. He still needs to be straightened out in terms of control. If he learns to consistently throw strikes without attempting to make every other pitch go to the backstop, he'll be really good. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen.

In regards to Prior, you're right. The Cubs would have to take him off the Iowa DL and then call him up before they can put him on the 60-day DL with the big league team and open up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Oh, not saying I would, just saying there are options if they wanted to. Obviously Marmol or Guzman can handle a start or two. And if they really need the 40 man spot, DFA Cesar please.

I agree. Call up Guzman anyway. If you're going to pay that much attention to his recent AAA stats, also considering his deflated mental state, you should pay equal or greater attention to his success at the MLB level this year.

A Walrond recall is just idiotic beyond words.
