Murton isn't going anywhere.

Except Des Moines on Monday.

I have a bad feeling you are right about this.

Didn't you watch the 10th inning? Murton is going to be the CF from here on out. :^o

Yeah!!!! When the Cubs start making roster moves I usually think what would make the least amount of sense. Like sending down Guzman the other day. What move would make the least amount of sense now?

You think sending down Guzman so he could replace Miller made the least amount of sense?

If thats the goal great!!! I have seen that posted here quite abit but haven't heard anything from the Cubs thats what they are going to do.

Then you haven't been reading the papers.

Look, no dissrespect to the organization that I worked for. But in my four seasons as the broadcaster with the Double-A team (2003-2006), Matt Murton was hands down the most talented player in those four years (that's right Cubs fans, even more talented then Felix Pie).

You can write this down: Matt Murton will hit 20-25 homers a year and hit .300 on a yearly basis for years to come. The loft he has on his swing is condusive to home runs It's just a matter of him filling his body out. Trust me, in 1-2 years this kid is going to be a stud. I only hope that the Cubs don't bury Murton for a past his prime guy who inevitably will hurt himself and the franchise if he plays everyday.

Agree, so let us not cononize Pie yet he is only 2 for 20. put the spunky red head in

Anyone see Soriano "run" today? There's no way he's 100% healthy, or even 75%.

Soriano should have been on the DL. Good call Hendry. Way to overrule your manager.

i agree with you big time on this...he was hobbling all over the place today

that is not good...last time i checked you still have to run in left field

Any chance of Soriano going back to second?

It's probably been over a year since he's even practiced there.

More than anything else, that's an indictment of the Cubs' farm system.

the front office needs to figure out what the hell they are doing here. this is just annoying. we are nearly a month into the season and they are still trying to shift regulars around? not a good look.

As long as Hendry is in charge, I see minimal chance of the Cubs front office figuring out what they hell they are doing.

I will third this....he was not even looking close to healthy. I wouldn't be surprised if he was put on the 15 day DL retroactively tomorrow. (They can do that right?)

On the other hand, he was jumping up and down on DeRosa's blooper like he was completely fine.

No because he played today.

Maybe we trade Floyd...

I believe he can't be traded until June 1.

Floyd is currently sporting a .647 OPS. He's also slow, a below average defender, has serious health questions, and is coming off a bad season. If he can get a hot streak going he might be marketable, but I don't think we could get anything for him now. Hendry was able to get him at a cheap price precisely because he lacked marketability.

Hendry was able to get him cheap because Floyd turned down several more lucrative offers to come home. It was reported that there were 5 other teams that wanted him, and most of them were wanting him to be a starter full-time.

Reported by who? Floyd's agent.

He's old, comming off surgery, and can't throw the ball. He's a DH.

I said this in January and we are now seeing the results: The Cubs are put together like a jigsaw puzzle with several pieces that don't fit.

The sooner Hendry is gone, the better off the Cubs will be unless they hire another "baseball man" like Jim Bowden.

As I mentioned in the "Pie sticking in the majors" thread, I'd like to see him kept here and remain the starting CFer. His bat will come around, IMO, as it always has. Though I'm typically not hung up on defense, he's so far and beyond everyone else that it's a joke. I say stick with him.

There are two problems with that. 1. The Cubs can't afford to have another black hole (for now) in the lineup; and 2. Who is sent down (to get to 12 pitchers)?

I've seen enough of Cedeno/Izturis. If Lou is really serious about keeping Theriot in the lineup, let's get him in at SS already. Send Cedeno down and Izturis becomes the backup at SS/2B (or better yet, get rid of Izturis). The future outfield of this team is (or should be) Soriano, Pie and Murton. Let's just get these guys out there now and stick with it for a while. Murton is far from ideal in RF, but there is little choice. Floyd is going to have to work on RF as well if he wants to get in there. For now, Jones, Floyd and Murton can all share time there (as well as LF while Soriano works his way back) until a deal can be worked out to ship Jones or Floyd (most likely Jones).

Starting today, I'd do this:

Soriano LF

Theriot SS

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Barrett C

Murton/Jones/Floyd RF

DeRosa 2B

Pie CF

It was not Floyd's agent that reported it. You are right though-one of the common themes was that it was AL teams who were interested in him. The Mariners, the Orioles, the Athletics, the Indians. As far as I know, the only National League team that was interested in him was the Pirates.

I think the Cubs and Pie would be best off keeping him on the 25 man roster and playing CF everyday as well.

I'd hit him 7th and be aggressive with him on the basepaths to improve his baserunning long-term.

Yeah, we'll we're still arguing over who starts where in late April. These are February arguments, not May arguments.

There's really no wonder we're bringing up the rear. I expect this will continue unless they figure out what the hell they want to do.

Honestly, I hold little to no hope that they can turn things around enough to make a run this year. That's part of the reason I advocate going this route with Pie, Murton and Theriot. Let's see what we have here and move forward. I see little benefit in sticking with guys like Jones, Floyd and Izturis at this point.

The problem with your scenario is that Murton isn't a right fielder. He doesn't have the arm.

I knew Hendry would would hurt Murton's progression when he went ga-ga over Soriano and then went after Floyd. Floyd by-the-way, is someone who Hendry has been after since he coached college baseball. I'll say this for the guy, when he has a mancrush he holds it for a very long time.

I feel bad for Murton. But I feel worse for us. We have to watch this mess unfold.

My hope is that Lou can overcome and adapt. It really seems like he's trying. I like that.

I agree, but I'd try Murton in RF. How much worse is he going to be than Jones? Jones has a little range, but he's average at best, IMO. There really isn't anyone on the roster with the arm to play RF, except maybe Soriano.

I do worry about what the plan for Murton actually is though. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Cubs do something stupid like not give him a chance.

Agreed. I don't believe it either. There's a reason why Floyd signed so late..He didn't have any takers and if you ask me going to the Cubs to be a "bench" player was probably one of his last options.
