the front office needs to figure out what the hell they are doing here. this is just annoying. we are nearly a month into the season and they are still trying to shift regulars around? not a good look.

however, an outfield of soriano, pie, and murton would be damn exciting. :D

I don't see how it's going to work with Murton and Soriano in the outfield. That leaves Jones as the only LH threat against righties (I'm not including Izzy, and I don't think Pinellla is either). I don't see Lou being satisfied with this, but the only other options I see are.....

Floyd platoons in right (not going to happen)

Soriano and Floyd platoon (not going to happen)

Pie stays up and platoons with Murton (doesn't seem likely)

Murton is packaged in a deal for a big LH RF. (??)

This outfield situation is really giving me a headache.

Jones will be shipped off in the next couple months.

Floyd and Murton will play in right, and Pie will be in center.

Agreed

I'm not saying I agree with it but I think we'll be seeing an outfield of Soriano, Pie, and Jones with Murton getting the starts against the occasional LH pitcher. I don't see any trade happening this early unless we give Jones (or Murton) away. And even then who could we get for either?

Unless something is already in the works, with respect to a trade of Jones, I can see him getting quite a few starts as the Cubs continue to showcase his skills. I think he will be traded sooner rather than later and when it happens, RF will be a spot for Murton and Floyd.

some minor league pitcher + middle infielder that was drafted in an early round, has good tools but hasn't exactly panned out?

Murton isn't going anywhere. He's young, inexpensive, talented, and under the team's control for what, three more years? He played in right the other night, and Lou has shown he isn't afraid to play younger guys.

Jacque's a goner (eventually), and I for one feel good about it.

Jones just needs to go. I would love to have a outfield consisting of Soriano, Pie, and Floyd/Murton.

Eventually, yes. This year, I doubt that Pie would be an improvement over Jones. The only way I would make that trade this year is if a) Pie is on fire in AAA near the deadline or b) we can get comparable value back for Jones. As much as he has struggled, he really isn't a worthless player, especially considering that his contract is relatively small.

Pie is an exciting prospect, but it would be a shame for him to get unconditional playing time (despite hitting .111) while Murton can't seem to play 2 games straight

Alright.

I've made my decision. I'm prepared to attack Cliff Floyd's knees with a wrench. If I have to force the Cubs management's hands, I will. Floyd will collect all this nice insurance stuff, and I'll spend a couple months in jail.

Maybe I can watch the Cubs World Series between bars.

EDIT: Complete joke if you can't tell.

You guys are really okay with a Floyd/Murton platoon in right? Cliff Floyd?? In right?? It may happen, but it's a scary prospect, IMO.

Management wants left handed hitters in the lineup against righties, and we don't have any options in the infield, so two of Jones/Floyd/Pie are going to have to see a lot of time in the OF. This is why we hadn't seen much of Murton until Soriano went down, and it's why we won't see much of him when Alfonso returns.

FYI, it looks like Pie will have a reprieve when Soriano returns on Monday (instead of quickly being sent back to AAA). Apparently, his defense today really impressed Lou.

Sullivan / Tribune

Piniella is giving Pie the benefit of the doubt, hoping his offense can catch up to his defense at the major-league level. Pie went 0-for-4 Saturday to fall to .111, but he made two fine running catches, including a running grab near the 400-foot marker in the second that robbed Adam Kennedy of a run-scoring, extra-base hit.

"We know what the young man can do out there with the glove," Piniella said. "He flagged a couple of them down, and he had to go a long ways for them also. It makes it much easier for the pitcher when you make those types of plays."

Piniella reiterated the Cubs will go back to 12 pitchers "shortly," meaning someone has to go down to Triple-A Iowa, unless the Cubs come up with a mysterious injury.

at this point, i just want a decision made sometime very soon...all this uncertainty is really pointless...i thought the cubs were going to compete this year, not sit around debating their roster...

I like Soriano, but I think it would've been an adventure on some of the hard hit flyballs if he were out there today.

I can see/hope Jones getting traded within the next few weeks to a month from now.

If the starters can keep going deep into games like they have recently the need for a 11 man staff really diminishes. Z should hopefully be able to get his act together soon and start putting together quality starts. Miller is then the key, and if he can only provide 5 inning, three run outings then that will be a constant drain on the bullpen. That would be another reason to trade him anywhere that is desperate for starting pitching for a low level prospect and put Guzman in the rotation.

I was at the game yesterday and those were really nice plays. I was sure Kennedy had extra bases in the second. He covers a lot of ground out there. His arm is really great too. Even his relay throws were bullets right on the money.

the kid is hot...pie that is...

i just hope the right decision is made

i am enthralled that soriano aka "alien" is going to LF...all of my friends kept saying that we needed to put him somewhere besides center and definitely not bat him leadoff...well...i said that i was content to let lou try out what he wanted at first, but now that one good move has been made hopefully soriano will be moved to 3, 4, or 5...

soriano in leadoff sucks period

Soriano wasn't playing poorly at all in CF, but Pie = future gold glover.

Provided Pie heats up enough to warrant an OF getting moved (Jones), I'd like to see Soriano end up permenantly in RF to take advantage of his arm strength once his injury is 100%.

Murton isn't going anywhere.

Except Des Moines on Monday.

I have a bad feeling you are right about this.

Didn't you watch the 10th inning? Murton is going to be the CF from here on out. :^o

Yeah!!!! When the Cubs start making roster moves I usually think what would make the least amount of sense. Like sending down Guzman the other day. What move would make the least amount of sense now?

You think sending down Guzman so he could replace Miller made the least amount of sense?
