Hey, all...

Coming down to the Cubbie/Brewer game next Wednesday. I've never gone down for a weekday game so I'm wondering what my best way to get there will be. I have directions from a guy to park along Grace Street East of Western. He claims there will be parking available. I've always just taken the shuttle from DeVry but that doesn't run on weekday games. Also wondering how traffic will be and if the CTA would be a better option. I've heard it's kind of a mess during the week.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

I usually park in this lot on Halsted, its between 10-12 bucks and easy to get out.

BTW avoid the Red Line like the plague.

Is the red line really that bad with all the work being done?

Yes

Depends. I personally don't mind it, if you don't like big crowds and standing the whole ride you might wanna avoid it during busy periods.

Yes

Is it just crazy busy, even during the day? Or is there something else going on?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll avoid the CTA just because we've only been on it a few times and I'll have 6 guys with me. We'll just try and find some parking on the street NW of Wrigley or maybe try the Halsted lot.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the Red line tip. Is it terrible just coming up from downtown? Or is it bad heading down from the North too?

I think you should save yourself the driving time and sell the tickets to watch these losers lose on TV.

Looks like our season tickets will be going on sale in a month or two for the September games. Face value...gotta love it.

Not sure what Irving Park Road is like, but coming from Wisconsin, I always take the Addison St. exit and follow it all the way to the park usually just pay to park right off of Racine which is a block from Wrigley. With six guys if everyone throws in 5-6 bucks you can spring for a spot in a private lot. The one I park in , if you were coming in on Addison, you would take a left on Racine and then pull into the first alley on your right, ask for Dale. (This will put you right behind the McDonalds across the street from Wrigley a 1/2 block away.

I think it is just bad heading from downtown. The Brownline splits off before Addison so I would guess the Redline would be fine North of there.

Irving Park sucks, but it's better than Addison. Irving Park is 4 lanes all the way from the expressway to past Southport. I live just north of Irving Park on Kenmore and I've tried Addison before and it definitely took longer. Parking is cheaper by me as well ($10-$15), but you have to walk 3 or 4 blocks.

It's particularly bad in the middle of the day regardless of where you get on or off. Because the construction that's being done is centered between downtown and Wrigley, there are frequent delays both from the north and south.

Since it'll be during the day, you should try and find regular street parking someplace west of Southport. It's only a couple blocks from Wrigley and you don't have to worry about the rush of people trying to exit all the lots at the same time.

And you get to walk for a little bit! Get some exercise for crying out loud!

I have to say that even coming from downtown the red line isn't that bad, certainly not something to be avoided like the plague. It's a big city, trains get crowded, and the construction doesn't help- but it's not that bad.

Also, regarding the original post, I hope the guy who told you to park east of Western on Grace meant 1-2 miles east of Grace, because Grace/Western is solid walk.

Get there early enough and there will be plenty of free street parking- best deal in the bigs!

On monday my buddy and I parked at the CTA lot at the end of the brown line and that worked out wonderfully. 2 bucks for parking and 4 bucks each for the rides to and from Wrigley. I was surprised to find a lot of open spots in the lot, so I don't know if we just got lucky or if there are typically spots open.

He added later to walk south to Addison and grab the 152 bus to the park if we end up too far west. I may have a connection to use someone's parking. They live in Wrigleyville. Paying whatever isn't that big of a deal to us. I'm just worried about getting caught in a huge traffic jam. We can't leave the Madison area until 9am.

General rules:

If you park on the street make sure you're not in the 383 zone that's 24 hour ticketing.

If it's a night game, there's not too many places you won't be ticketed/towed parking on the street.

The east-West stretch of Sheridan is completely unzoned, so if you don't mind showing up early that's the place to go.

I can always find a spot on Ashland between or near Addison and Waveland. It's no biggey to walk the 7-8 blocks east to the park. Plus it's supposed to start warming up this weekend, so the walk would be nice. Much faster than trying to drive any closer to Wrigley. Plus, it's free!
