IF you can trade Z + something for A-Rod, then you can do a follow-up deal sending Murton for a starting pitcher(what small market teams have capable pitchers that are impending free agents?). The offense doesn't lose out because you just added A-Rod, and with Pie you still have a cost effective OF option. Hill, Lilly, Marquis are all guarantees for next season, then you have some combination of your trade acquisition(or other FA), Guzman, Gallagher, Veal, Marmol, and Marshall for the last two spots(more cost effectiveness to counter A-Rod's deal).

Any predictions on the lineup tonight? I figure it will look something like this:

CF - Pie

2B - Theriot

1B - Lee

3B - Ramirez

LF - Floyd

C - Barrett

RF - Barrett

SS - Izturis

P - Zambrano

We'll see if I'm even close to right.

That's a very good question. Anybody have any idea? (I have no idea of how to find this out.)

Geez, playing two positions would be bad enough if it were CF/RF, but Barrett somehow has to catch and then run out to RF if a ball is hit there!

I need to get my head in the game today.

You know we're going to see Jacque tonight again back in RF with Floyd in LF.

I thought about that, but I was kind of thinking that perhaps Lou might look at Jones' 1-6 game yesterday, plus the defensive lapse, and choose to give him a rest. That is, unless they're trying to show him off to some scouts.

CUBS are 2-1 when they've lost their last 1 game(s) in a row

CUBS are 4-3 when they've lost their previous game

Sorry, but I'm getting a little thrown off by these two stats....whats the difference here?

If you lost 2 in a row, that's not one in a row, but you've still lost your previous game.

Plus Fred likes to make up numbers to see if anyone's still reading.

You mean like this one:

CUBS are on a pace to hit 00 homeruns this year..... compared to 166 last year and 194 in '05

I think Lou would like to take a look at the lineup with 4 LH bats in there.

If they were thinking just about yesterday, I doubt Lou would hold Murton's 0 for 5 with a defensive lapse any higher than Jones going 1 for 6 with a defensive lapse.

Anyway, I bet Lou doesn't really care about one day. It will probably be Murton and Jones again tonight, and then either Murton/Floyd tomorrow or Murton/Theriot.

Looking ahead, Jones will likely play against Looper (he is 3/4 against him) and Murton against Reyes (2 AB's against him, both were home runs).

That is, unless someone has shown Lou Jacque's splits.

You could be right, but I still see Lou putting in Murton and Floyd over Jones today. Could go either way, we'll see.

Are they facing a lefty?

The left-hander is not until tomorrow (responding to your comment about Jacque's splits). It was supposed to be today, but it's not until tomorrow now. If Lou cares about the batter/pitcher matchups, he won't play Floyd today-he's 2 of 14 against this pitcher. So you it is reasonable to see any of the three combinations, but I think the most likely is Murton and Jones.

I see, that makes much more sense now. Where do you suppose Murton and Jones will hit in the lineup?

My guess (again, I could be way off here)-Pie/Murton/Lee/Ramirez/Jones/Barrett/DeRosa/Izturis tonight.

Gonna miss this game, at least the second half.

:(

I hate missing Cubs games.

Yeah, same here. I have a HS baseball game to cover that starts around 4 so I'll miss the first few innings. Hopefully when I get back around 6:30ish, Z will still be in the game.

That's alright I guess. DeRosa in the 2 spot isn't too bad since neither Murton or Theriot is in the lineup.
