They can't blow a 7 run lead can they?

 

I think its pretty obvious that they can.

 

The Cubs could be winning Game 7 of the World Series 275-0 with 2 outs and nobody on in the 9th inning with an 0-2 count on the hitter, and they'd still find a way to blow it.

BOTTOM OF THE SEVENTH INNING

 

Floyd grounded to second base , safe at first on a throwing error, E4

Cedeno sacrificed, 1-3, Floyd to second

Izturis grounded out to second, 4-3 , Floyd to third

Ward, pinch hitting for Hill, walked (intentionally)

Soriano grounded an IF single to shortstop , Floyd scored, Ward to second

Theriot singled to center field , Ward scored, Soriano to second

Coutlangus in to pitch for Cincinnati

Jones walked , Soriano to third, Theriot to second

Santos in to pitch for Cincinnati

Lee doubled to right center field Soriano, Theriot & Jones scored

Barrett walked

Floyd flied out to left field

I don't have access to video, was that ball catchable or did roll to the wall as a result of Freel un-necessairly diving?

 

Freel didn't dive, he just couldn't get to it.

It wasn't catchable and it rolled to the wall. Freel didn't dive, IIRC. It certainly wasn't Edmonds-like.

Is Howry necessary in a 7-0 game?

 

Since he hasn't been all that great, Lou probably wants to get him into a game where there's not as much pressure.

While it's nice that Murton is thought of as the better defender, I sure hope his value to the team isn't as a defensive sub.
