his name is hernandez

His name is Robert Paulson.

I like the fact that your sig has the word "MEATLOAF" in it on a post where you make reference to a character played by Meat Loaf.

I really think the torch might have been passed to him. Santana just may not be the best pitcher in baseball anymore. This is Kerry Wood 1998 without the 20Ks and a lot more command and a lot more groundballs.

Come on now. Santana has obliterated the league for three years running. You think that the torch is passed after two starts? As great as he is, he's got a long way to go. Consistency is everything.

And don't get me wrong: I recognize this kid's potential... but...

Also: he will have the arm troubles of Kerry Wood if they continue to tax his 21-year-old arm with 100 pitches every fifth day...

That probably wont be the case. Felix is pretty sound on his mechanics, and Kerry Wood is probably one of the worst at repeating his mechanics.

Turned on the radio this morning and all the ESPN jerks would talk about was Dice-K.

Here's a clue, you morons: HE LOST.

The real story was Hernandez. My goodness that guy is amazing. He does remind me of Wood.

What is wrong with 100 pitches? Why do some people seem to think that 100 pitches is some magical barrier that, once a pitcher crosses, he is doomed to injury? Do you realize how arbitrary and overly-generalizing your statement is? I think it's a lazy statement, if anything.

I agree with you KyHen. When Felix Hernandez can win multiple Cy Young Awards (which he does have the ability to do) like Santana (and I presume Santana will win it again this yr) nobody can make a case of Felix Hernandez passing Johan Santana. NOBODY.

Now if people are talking about Hernandez passing Erwin Santana (who's is nice young stud in the making) I could agree with that statement, but Johan....NOPE...Felix HAS A LONG WAYS TO GO before he surpasses Johan.

And from a fantasy standpoint: Who would you rather pick in the first rd of the draft; Johan Santana or Felix Hernandez?

Hernandez was always ahead of Ervin Santana.

If I'm not mistaken, I do believe that the Mariner's have kept him on a short leash the past two years and not allowed him to pitch any more than a max of 90 pitches per game during that span, as well as monitoring his pitch selection.

And now he's thrown 110 pitches in the first two games of the season. Danger, Will Robinson.

I was being sarcastic. Even tho I like E. Santana, I know he isn't in Felix's class, just like Felix isn't in Johan Santana's class.

King Felix may repeat his mechanics, but the way he falls off towards first isn't a good omen.

Of his 45 games started, he has thrown 110+ pitches 7 times. He's thrown over 100 many times, but not often over 110. I don't think he's running the risk of injury when you have to probably get used like Wood did in order to run that risk, who in the first 2 full years in the majors, threw 24 games of 110+ (including 12 of those being 120+). The highest pitch count Hernandez has had in his career thus far is 117.

Unless they start letting him throw 120-130 pitches a game, I don't think he's a candidate for DL player of the year any time soon.

Oh, and he threw 108 pitches his first game. not that two pitches is a huge deal

EDIT: A little math comparison to Kerry Wood

Hernandez has thrown 100+ pitches 58% of all his starts. (26/45)

In Wood's first two years, he threw 100+ pitches in 78% of all his starts (39/50)

The issue isn't that he threw 110 pitches in back to back games, it's that he threw 110 pitches in back to back games in early April. This is when pitchers don't have as much arm strength built up.

I watched the game, he was throwing 99 mph in the 8th with little to no effort. His delivery is about as smooth as I have seen in someone who throws so hard. They said on ESPN that he was averging 97mph for his fastballs on the night. It was an amazing performance.
