Aaron said he wouldn't attend if Bonds were within reach of the record when the San Francisco Giants play at Atlanta from Aug. 14-16.

"I'd probably fly to West Palm Beach to play golf," Aaron was quoted as saying in Moore's column. "Again, it has nothing to do with anybody, other than I had enough of it. I don't want to be around that sort of thing anymore. I just want to be at peace with myself. I don't want to answer questions. It's going to be a no-win situation for me anyway. If I go, people are going to say, `Well, he went because of this.' If I don't go, they'll say whatever. I'll just let them make their own mind up."

Yep. Too classy to say what he really means. I'm thrilled with his decision.

Besides, Bonds won't have the home run record for very long anyway.

right, the whole bonds thing is much ado about nothing, as it is very likely that ARod will break Bonds' record by the end of his career

Looks like A-Rod is about 150 HR's ahead of Bond's pace.

Sweet Lord

900 Homers, anybody?

Psh, he's gonna hit 1000.

and Yankees fans will still boo him

Ah yes, but will he double his previous career-high when he gets into his late 30's?

Sounds easy enough. :P

Hank Aaron is really cool.

And he used to play with Dusty Baker.

In fact, if you haven't heard, Baker was on deck when Hank broke Babe's record!

I was 9 when Aaron broke the record, but I remember disliking him at the time. Not to t the point of wanting to send him hate mail or anything, but I was enamored by Babe Ruth at that age. My grandfather talked about Ruth a lot at the time. I wasn't racist, it was just that I didn't want someone to break Ruth's record.

Now, since I've seen many of the interviews he's done since that time I've come to really appreciate Aaron as a complete ball player. What an awesome player he was! He did everything! He is really cool, especially handling the situation with Bonds the way he has with such class.
