He was a mid-first round selection by the White Sox back in 98, and in 2002 and 2003 he was pretty good with the Pirates so it isn't like they just scooped him up off of the street.

I wish we could scoop up some garbage, pay them the league minimum, and watch them put up great numbers. Seems like it happens to the Cardinals every year

He also played for some pretty bad Pittsburg teams, no?

I just am disgustingly respectful of the way that the Cardinals have run their franchise throughout history, especially in comparison to the monetary resources their owners have vs. the Cubs. Embarassing.

We have just as much evidence to suggest that Rothschild has turned around Marquis as we have that Duncan has turned around Fogg.

I assume you mean Wells.

We have Wade Miller!

Well he's not making the league minimum, so there's your difference.

Yeah, right now, we're even in the "junk heap pitchers inexplicably playing well" department, so we can't complain too much.

Yet.

Hey man, watch it with the ominus stuff here! :D

Duncan is a very good pitching coach, but Wells has always had good enough stuff to be good. If he continues his play, it will have more to do with being healthy and getting run support than some magic Duncan dust. Not saying Duncan doesn't play a part; just saying it will probably be overstated.

However, if my sig continues as is, I will kiss Dave Duncan's ass for the rest of his career.

Prediction: Mark Prior somehow ends up w/ the Cards after 2008 and Duncan turns him into the Prior of 2003.

I would hate to see this happen. W/ Cubs luck, it will.

Exactly, it's too early. I do not care about Wells, or Looper for that matter, but I do know they are going to miss Carpenter. On another note, the Cubs have gotten some nice pitching (save Miller) from their own reclamation projects. We'll see how long these trends continue.
