Colts select: DT Demarcus Tyler, NC State

Tyler is a 1 gap DT that should give the Colts size while not giving up their penetrating into the backfield style that the Colts like to play. He is continuing to improve. This is a little bit of a surprise to see Tyler this high, but the Colts have never had the same type of player rankings as other teams-this simply continues it.

Good pick. I'm hoping for Tyler or Harrell.

If CCP holds true to Colt form, he'll surprise everyone with the pick. DT is probably the most likely selection, with LB a possibility (though I don't think the Colts value that position enough to take one in the first round and they have some good young ones already -- watch out for Freddy Keiaho). However, don't be stunned if they go with a WR.

They could use a #3 WR, though Dallas Clark basically played that role this year and did it well. Steve Smith (USC) would be a reach at 32, but would be a near perfect fit.

Sidney Rice is a better pick, but its obviously a homer one, coming from me.

Rice is more talented, without a question. But Smith is the perfect fit for the Colts O. He's a smart WR, great route runner, sure hands, and can run after the catch. He's Marvin Harrison without the speed.

Sid is all those things and he's 6'4 and can catch the ball in traffic. I understand what you are saying, but I think Rice fits with Indy just as much as Smith.

The scouting reports I've seen have all said he needs to refine his route running and doesn't do much after the catch.

Steve Smith definitely runs better routes than Sidney Rice. And he does more after the catch too.

I definitely think Steve Smith will do well in the NFL.

His route running could use a little fine tuning, but he played for a very good receivers coach in Bubba Spurrier. Its tough to do a lot after the catch when you make all of your catches on double and triple teams.

Detroit Lions select OG Texas, Justin Blalock.

Lions are really talent deficient on both the LG and RG front. They allowed 63 sacks and were worst in rushing(hmmmm...Mike Martz anything to do with that?). Any of the top 3 OG should be a good fit here and all should have the ablitity to start immediately. Blalock is the choice here because Grubbs is gone.

Do you remember when Kevin Jones was a top 15 draft pick in Fantasy Football 2 years ago based on his last 8 game performance in the 2004 season? People are down on him, but i dont believe its because he lacks the talent, his offensive line is really bad except for Center D. Raiola and LT Backus. If the Lions want to continue to have their running backs slam into a bunch of asses at the line of scrimmage they draft in other need areas. That doesnt sound like much fun to me, they go OLine here.

Bringing Scott and Blalock back together again, I see.

Just as quickly as this thing got going, it died. Maybe we should try to set up a way to do this live on 1 day and finish it a bit quicker.

It is kinda difficult for people who have classes or work. Not everyone spends all day browsing NSBB. :P

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Justin Harrell, DT, Tennessee

With the trade of Booger McFarland last year, the Bucs don't have any solid DTs. Hovan is a run stopper, and Wyms is a pass rusher. The Bucs added Kevin Carter with the ability to play end and tackle, but Harrell will give them an every down DT. The front 4 is the key to the cover 2.

That's the beauty of currently being unemployed, and coming home the day after the college admission deadline :P

The Chicago Bears select

Rufus Alexander LB Oklahoma

The Bears need to protect themselves with the Lance Briggs siuation. Alexander would be a perfect fit in the Bears cover 2.

I would have gone with Jarrett here. I think he's the best player left on the board. He could very well be a Muhsin clone for the Bears (like when he was good). Rufus is still a little reach here I think.

Jarrett is a punk. I want no part of him.

Yeah, I think Rufus is a reach there.

I don't think so. I have him higher than 3 others that went in the 1st (Beason, Spencer, Blalock)

It really depends on the system I guess. If the Bear continue to run a cover 2, Alexander would be ok but I think he is rather limited. Beason didn't produce quite like Rufus did, but he's got more versatility, he is bigger, and he is quicker. For a team like the Bears, Spencer would be a DE which significantly lowers his value but for a 3-4 team he is probably one of the best rush OLBs.
