93mph swing and a miss!

Maybe he really was holding back just a bit. I mean obviously there is more to pitching than MPH but that sure is a nice sign.

A 93 mph backdoor 2-seamer that catches the outside corner is just a tad bit encouraging.

Looks like this is another step, albeit a small one, for Prior's velocity and stuff.

SD radio guys is calling Prior's curveballs "spinners", saying they don't have much bite to them...

Is that accurate?

They aren't the normal Prior curveballs, but I wouldn't say they're spinners. He actually threw a couple of nice curves that past inning.

As great as the 93 mph readings are, his struggles with the offspeed pitches are VERY worrisome. :|

93! Swing and miss!

That's good to hear! Is it merely control he's lacking? Meaning location on all pitches or are the breaking pitches not breaking...or both!?

Baby steps. It's an improvement. We just want to see some sort of improvement each time out.

Is he throwing a slider today? Or is the movement on his 86MPH FB that good?

Sounds like Prior just needs repetition. Eventually he'll put it all together I think. Its going to be a long season listening to all these opposing teams broadcasters on XM, Im really going to mis my EI package. Oh well...

There isn't anything wrong with Prior, he just needs to get into his routine.. keep in mind, he hasn't been healthy in quite a while..have patience gang.. things will be okay

Is prior done or 1 more inning???

Don't the secondary pitches usually come later? Getting the fastball where he wants will hopefully lead him to be able to execute the secondary ones... hopefully.

Haven't I heard that curveball's are much harder to throw in Arizona and the breaking stuff in the cactus league is never good? did I Imagine that?

Yeah I just want him to make a little progress each time out. I don't care if he's not pitching great in this game or the next one or even in May... I just hope he can stay healthy and regain his feel for pitching so that he can contribute later on this summer.

True, but it seems like that's something he could be worked with/coached on, where as the velocity is just either going to be there or it isn't. It's really nice to see him in the mid 90's (albeit the low mid 90's).

Obviously, still some things to work on, but so far, not so bad.
