This is what I was thinking yesterday...

Kerry Wood, sidelined since March 11 with a strained right triceps muscle, had been originally scheduled to pitch as well on Thursday, but he's now been switched to Friday, when the Cubs will play host to the Giants.

There's nothing physically wrong with Wood -- the Cubs just don't think there are enough innings on Thursday for the three pitchers.

"We've got Prior going, and we need Hill to stretch out four, five innings," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said on Wednesday. "I don't know how long Prior is going to go, but assuming he goes three, four innings, then Hill will finish the ballgame."

The first post has been edited to reflect that. Thanks!

This is the third time Maddux has been scheduled to face the Cubs this spring, right? He only pitched in 2 of them.

I know it's only spring training, but I swear we've now faced and/or were scheduled to face Maddux at least two or three times.

Yeah... 3rd time scheduled. Couldnt make the second one though..

You're right. The Cubs faced him earlier in ST and he, reportedly, suffered an abdominal strain during that game. He missed his next start and avoided another start against the Cubs to play in a MiL game (the Cubs knocked around Tim Stauffeur instead). This should have been the 3rd meeting.

Comeon mark, we're going for one....strikeout

I want to see make just let'er rip and go after it. Get that killer confidence back.

Is unreasonable to expect an increase in velocity and movement from Prior today? Or is it still too early?

Nothing against Prior or Wood but, I find it quite refreshing that the success or failure of the Cubs no longer hinges on performance of Prior and Wood.

His velocity has increased every start up to this point. I could see him hitting the 90's a few more times than he did last time.

I'm more concerned with his command.

I'm actually kind of glad I won't be able to watch this one. The chances that Prior will be shelled are pretty large, and I don't need to see that again. Hopefully he improves his command and velocity a little more and make some progress towards his comeback, even if he sucks today.

I am staying in Peoria about 1/2 mile from the park...there is scattered rain in the forecast and a bit cool. Bruce can probably give you a better weather report but there might be a chance for delays/cancelations for this one.

Looks like the showers are over and you're good to go in the Mesa area.

Where are you staying in Peoria? Last year, I stayed in Mesa.
