Chicago Sun Times[/url]"]Michael Barrett is tough. He doesn't flaunt it and it's not in his nature to talk about it, but few guys in the Cubs' clubhouse can take what this catcher has shown he can take.

Just look at the injury that sidelined him for the final four weeks of last season. The foul ball to the groin he took was so severe that it required season-ending surgery, putting it in a class by itself for injury you most want to avoid.

''As far as pain, yeah,'' he said.

But that's not what makes Barrett so tough. It was what he did the first week of camp this spring to test his new cup. He took a bat to it repeatedly, hitting it so hard that players in the adjoining clubhouse stopped what they were doing to find out where the noise was coming from. To clarify, he was wearing the cup at the time.

Wow.

The only thing that might have been crazier is if he'd let Zambrano take swings at it to test the cup.

He should let Zambrano give him a few knees to the cup. He's already proven his knees are much tougher than bats.

"How you doin' Mac?"

"Good enough...to (do) your mother."

I made a blind purchase of Beerfest on the recommendation of a co-worker. Seen it and any thoughts, soccer?

Great movie. It's not as funny as the best parts of Super Troopers (i.e. about the first half of ST) but it sustains the comedy throughout the whole movie and doesn't drag at all.

I have tears running out of my eyes.

Can you imagine what this looked like? Was Barrett laying on the ground, legs spread open while someone else used the bat? Or was he just standing there as somebody took a homerun cut? Or maybe Barrett was the one hitting the cup, sitting on the ground, legs crossed, continuously slamming the barrel of the bat into his groin?

And what if the new cup had broken?

I wonder if someone said "NUTS!"

*From a military commander during WWII*

You realize, of course, that he said that referring to the Battle of the Bulge.
