I want to see how the contenders fare once they get deep into conference season.

I doesn't matter who ever we pick is going to flame out....

I choose Wieters by default. I hate NC State with a passion so Brackman is a no go. I'd rather Ozzie G manage the Cubs over rely on an NC State alum... sorry to any who went there http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/8929/smiliebleh7qp.gif

As for Price versus Wieters, I guess I'd rather say that the Cubs had more solid position prospects in their farm system. And Price reminds me too much of Prior and how we probably ruined him.

Price reminding you of Prior, is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a great thing. And I understand wanting a good college hitter, but the MLB draft is the biggest crapshoot there is. I go for BPA every time, and Price is that to me.

Price reminding me of Prior is a bad thing when the only thing it reminds me of is how this kid was likely ruined by our management. Yeah Dusty and MacPhail are no longer with the team, but I still hold Hendry accountable for allowing Prior to be abused as much as he was. And I fear that given another stud pitcher this team/organization hasn't learned from its mistakes and we'd kill the kid's career.

But make no mistake, if the 3rd pick came around and it was Price who was there, I'd still be very happy.

Exactly. Price is the BPA.

I think it's impossible to take a pitcher and a hitter and determine which is the BPA. It's completely subjective. People should be reminded of the flameout rate of pitchers and exercise extreme caution when drafting them.

While I think I'd rather have Price, I doubt he's available when the Cubs pick. And because the Cubs have had a long history of developing position prospects and Wieters sounds like he won't need much development time in the minors, I voted for Wieters.

Umm, I think you mean they have a long history of not developing position prospects.

I voted Wieters because he's a local boy, and I was friends with his cousin in HS. If he's drafted by the Cubs, I will do my best to stalk him!

I really want Wieters, but im afraid things are gonna go Price/Wieters/Brackman.

PS

I used to be on the Price-train, but i've looked at Wieters a lot over the last couple weeks, and I'm in love.

I remember the days back on another board when we debated on Prior vs Teixeria. I wanted Prior, but I wonder what I'd do now?!?!

Hahahaha, you're right, it's Prior vs. Teixeria all over again. We even have the same colleges involved again in Price vs. Wieters (if you consider Prior went to Vanderbilt for his freshman year).
