sosa is in a tough spot this year. if he's bad, then he'll hear all the "i told you so's". if he's good, then the steriod speculation begins all over.

I'm not so sure about that. He surely was tested when he came into spring training, have been out of the game for a year. Sure, he could be on HGH or something, but so could every other player in the game.

To me, it would seem to deflect some of the attention if he plays well and doesn't fail a test.

If I were Sammy, I'd have them videotape me having drug tests at least once a month if I came back and had a great year.

yeah i think a good season with drug tests would be some sort of vindication. still would be some uncertainty about 98 though. might help with the HOF committee some day too.

I agree.

Wow that home run he had yesterday was a monster. It reminded me of the juiced Sosa. Wait, HGH is still easily accessible and not tested for.

So I guess that makes me feel the same way I felt in 1998 when my brain was telling me "this isn't natural". Namely, it makes me feel like everyone's on a level playing field, so I don't really care.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, a need to not have such an important part of my life be a fairy tale. But until someone shows me the failed test or the past purchase ala Matthews, I'm taking blissful ignorance, thank you very much.

I'll believe Sammy is as clean right now as I do any other ballplayer. I hope he hits 50 and slugs the Rangers into the postseason. Because I've always supported my team first and my heroes second. But in this case, I have no reason to be conflicted. Dudes in the AL.

Member when Sammy during his heyday would pulverize ST pitching hittin like a dozen HR's. That was awesome.

Now would be time to start doing that again. He's on that track.

Why would you want video evidence of being guilty?

Just a little updated on Sammy from rotoworld,

Sosa is 9-for-18 with two home runs and four RBIs through six games. "I know I was playing against them, but I was thinking about a normal game," the 38-year-old slugger said. "When you were out for a year like I was, sometimes they think you are finished - and I'm not."

Sammy is making me excited to watch the Rangers this year. I usually take in a few Ranger games a year because my sister-in-law lives there and it's close. I may have to make a few more trips (in addition to the Cubs one in June.)

From the early paper edition of the Sunday Chicago Tribune (not on the net yet):

"This Guy (owner Tom Hicks) stepped up to the plate. Now I'm making them look good. I'm looking great. Now they're looking like the Bill Gates of baseball."

- Sammy quoted at Friday's games against the Cubs

Love him or hate him, there's one thing everyone can agree about Sammy - There's no "I" in Sammy as he's all about the team.

Paul Sullivan said there's a full interview with Sammy in Sunday's Trib.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Sammy is going to have a great year. It's awesome to see him doing so well in ST!

RTG,

Juiced or not, Sammy Sosa was one of the greatest individual baseball players of all time. However, his antics eventually wore a lot of down us down. I just prefer players like Ryne Sandberg who was IMO 100% correct in his HOF speech.

...and like Grace, 100% jealous of the attention Sosa got.

According to an article in the Sun-Times, Sosa called the Cubs first when he decided to make a comeback.

Link.

After a two-hit, three-catch game Friday, Sosa said he wanted to return to Chicago when he decided to come back this year from a year off from baseball and called the Cubs.

''But they say no, they was OK,'' he said. ''I pretty much have an opportunity with Chicago -- I mean, Texas -- and they are the one that step up to the plate, and they are the one that look like genius now.''
