Is that pretty much what we've been expecting, or not?

That's good to know. I'd rather have Jones back in there. Our OF looks like the best we've had since 2004, maybe not defensively but offensively at least.

Actually this might be the worst OF in ML history

That's interesting since Hendry said at Convention that Jones had never said he wanted to be traded.

I've always been under the impression that Jones wanted out, and Hendry tried to accommodate him.

I'm glad he's coming back, and I'm equally glad he's withdrawn his request to leave. But, Jones should sit vs. LHP. That may not sit well with Jones, but I really don't think he has any clout in the matter.

Is it pretty much a foregone conclusion around here that DeRosa will bat 2nd, Barrett 6th, and Murton 7th?

Personally, I think Murton would be the better choice in the two hole, but if DeRosa matches his numbers from last year, I can't really complain with him in the two hole.

It will be interesting to see what they do about Jones and LHP. My guess is that he sits a few more days than last year, but still will bat against a decent amount of LHP.

no murton.

Are you saying this with something in support or is it just the pessimistic party line?

Piniella mentioned candidates for the 2 spot, and Murton was not in there-that doesn't mean he won't change his mind though-he said he was going to re-evaluate everything in ST, and Lou is somebody who will change his mind on things quickly if he decides something is not working right.

well, if the outfield will consist of floyd, soriano, and jones i can hardly see murton getting anything above the much fewer platoon PA's he'll get against left-handers.

not enough to facilitate the development of the guy with the highest OBP in the lineup last season.

From everything I've gathered so far, DeRosa and Izturis are the top two candidates to bat 2nd. Since Izturis would be the absolute worst option there of anyone on the roster, I'm hoping for DeRosa. I would be thrilled to see Murton there and I hope that the real choice ends up being between Murton and DeRosa.

I'd probably prefer Murton bat ahead of Barrett if Murton is not batting 2nd, but I'm not sure that will happen. You have to figure on days that Blanco plays, you definitely don't want Blanco hitting ahead of Murton. In other words, a set line up of:

Soriano

DeRosa

Lee

Ramirez

Jones

Floyd/Murton

Barrett

Izturis

would keep things somewhat consistent from day to day.

Ron Shandler's brilliant new forecast guide ranks the factors in pitching wins. Number one is run support. (Even more important than ERA!) Number six is defense.

I figure the OF will net us at least 90 HRs, 220 RBIs and 17 assists. I'll trade some extra bases on defense in exchange for many, many more on offense.

This is good news.

Floyd will be the platoon partner with Jones.

Plus, it gives us a lot of flexibility.

They both bat left handed.

My guess is that Floyd and Murton wil share LF until Floyd goes on the down low.

For some reason, people keep talking about this Floyd/Jones platoon, and it doesn't make a lick of sense.

The Cubs are a pretty RH dominant team, and they have been for years. But they've also been worse against LHP than RHP. I'd like to see another RH bat brough in to allow Jones to sit against LHP, because I'm pretty sure one of Floyd/Jones will always be in the lineup against LHP, and that's not good.

Given the roster, the right thing to do when facing a lefty is for DeRosa to move from 2B to RF, and to let Theriot start at 2B.

Definitely. I'd love to see it.

Im really scared of our Defense in the Outfield..Murton is so-so, Soriano we dont know what were gunna get yet, and Jones and his robotic arm..It's real good from a Offense prospective though, Murton will hit around 20 maybe,Soriano 40-50? , Jones around 25..Lets hope Soriano can be good out there and cover alot of ground and catch everything and Jones learns not to spike the ball in the ground

Jones does not have a robotic arm. If he did, we would be able to program it to be good.

Lol,Its jsut weird how he throws..I dont get how the hell the rest of the league can throw normal and with a quick arch on the ball.Even 10 year olds can throw normal. But he releases the ball way to late when his hand is on its way down.
